About Everglades Boats
Under RJ Dougherty & Associates, CEO Bob Dougherty and President Stephen Dougherty started building windshields and small parts for EdgeWater PowerBoats and Boston Whaler, as well as RAMCAP-based hard tops for Pro-Line, Mako Marine, Stamas Yachts and others. The Doughertys eventually extended the use of the RAMCAP process to other parts building and finally to their first boat: the EdgeWater 14, winner of the 1999 NMMA Innovation Award.
Bob and Stephen Dougherty then founded Everglades Boats to build a full line of boats using the new and patented RAMCAP construction process. The objective was to build versatile family-friendly fishing boats ideally designed for inshore and offshore waters alike.
Everglades Boats successfully launched its flats boats and V-hull bay boats lines over the last few years winning again the 2002 NMMA Innovation Award for its line of flats boats using RAMCAP.
This year, Everglades Boats introduced another innovation award-winner, the new Everglades Boats 290 Pilot. First in an upcoming line of high-end offshore family fishing boats, the Everglades Boats 290 Pilot received top honors at the 2005 NMMA Innovation Awards in Miami, sole winner in the Fishing Boats category for innovative achievement. Three awards in the last 6 years!
The Dougherty Legend
Industrial arts teacher Bob Dougherty joined Boston Whaler in 1960 for what would become a 30-year journey of outstanding fiberglass boat building and design. Bob Dougherty started out as Chief Engineer then became Chief Designer & Senior Vice President of Engineering, designing almost every boat Boston Whaler built, ranging from nine to 31 ft.
Stephen Dougherty joined his father’s team at Boston Whaler in 1984 and contributed to the success of the company until 1990, when father and son moved on following the change of ownership to Reebok.
The Doughertys then began building the tooling for an 18-ft variable deadrise V-hull offshore boat, which would eventually become the first model of the Edgewater PowerBoats line.
Together, Bob and Stephen owned and operated EdgeWater PowerBoats until 1994, leaving in 1995 to pursue other interests.
RAMCAP Technology
Industry legend Bob Dougherty spent over 40 years designing some of the most recognized and successful boats on the market. Bob and his son, Stephen, started Everglades Boats to build a full line of versatile family fishing boats using the patented RAMCAP construction process.
RAMCAP (Rapid Molded Core Assembly Process) bonds the hull, deck and structural core together under extreme pressure to deliver a truly unsinkable boat that will sustain its integrity in the roughest sea conditions.
In addition to providing incredible stability and unsinkability, RAMCAP eliminates air voids between the deck and hull, giving every Everglades Boat more interior room and exceptional fit and finish. A further guarantee of the boats’ quality is Everglades Boats' 10-year transferable limited hull warranty.
Conventional fiberglass boat manufacturers inject or spray foam between the deck and hull to achieve flotation. With RAMCAP, the opposite takes place: a pre-molded high-density closed cell urethane core is chemically bonded to the hull and deck to create a strong, unsinkable, one-piece boat. Each core is inspected prior to bonding to ensure its integrity.
