History of Azimut Yachts

1969 - Paolo Vitelli, before taking his University degree started his own company in Turin, Italy, The purpose of the business was to charter sailing boats. Therefore he transformed his passion into a business of luxury motor yachts.


Amerglass, a modern Dutch shipyard producing boats in fibreglass, conferred the first dealership contract in Italy on the newly-founded power boat manufacturer Azimut Yachts. The business developed quickly, adding the distribution of sailing boats, motorcruisers and finally motoryachts from different makers: British Powles, Westerly, and others.


The product of a joint-venture with Amerglass, the first fibreglass motorcruiser developed, the AZ 43 BALI, was an instant success.


The range of motorcruisers extended downwards with the introduction in 1977 of the AZ 32 Targa model: soon after, a full range of successful luxury Motorcruiser and Motoryacht models came onto the market.


Research program

The applied research program is one of the highpoints of the Azimut Yachts production system.


The program makes a production yacht available for experimentation into innovative solutions and to discover whether or not they are feasible. Model K, as the test yacht is called, offers the company an opportunity to try out numerous different yacht design proposals, so contributing to the introduction of innovative solutions that improve both performance and quality of life on board.
This innovative approach to the boating industry has given a strong contribution to Azimut Yachts in becoming the leading luxury boat and mega yacht builder.

Maintenance

During its first year, each boat up to 65 feet long receives two regularly scheduled maintenance services. Each service includes more than 100 controls.


The dealer checks main system functions such as electrical, fresh water and sewage systems, instruments, the electronic navigation system, drainage, pumps and many others. During the second maintenance service, the boat is hauled and the hull is cleaned, an antifouling coat is applied and the zinc anodes are changed at no charge for the shipowner.


Any maintenance deriving from the checks performed is covered by the warranty (materials subject to wear and accessories not installed by the shipyard are excluded from the warranty) and all these services are available worldwide at any Azimut Yachts dealer.


Courtesy Yachts

This service is envisaged for Azimut Yacht owners sailing in the Mediterrane and Central East America and suffering damage to their yacht, while still under guarantee, that prevents them from continuing their cruise safely and satisfactorily.


From mid July to mid September Azimut Yachts is putting a number of courtesy yachts at their clients’ disposal, located in the most strategic ports in order to best serve the entire Mediterranean and in Florida. The substitute yachts will be assigned depending on the order of priority of the call and the extent of the damage and will be with the client within 24 hours. They will be at the client’s disposal for the time needed to make the repairs. This service is guaranteed for all craft between 39 and 80 feet under warranty. Clients availing of the service will be liable only for fuel consumption, mooring and food and lodgings for the captain.
