It does keep the rope up. It also seems to slow down the action a little.

This product solved the problem of a low hook up point on my pontoon. The rope no longer grabs the waves on a turn when towing a tube. I'd recommend it.

I needed something to lift the rope out of the water because I have a large boat with a big wave out the back. The booster ball worked exactly like it was supposed to. I can hardly tell I am pulling a tube. Without the ball the rope is submerged in the water most of the time.
