Quality Product - Hard to determine
by Gary from Shreveport, Louisiana on January 03, 2014
I have found this gas spring to be a very nicely designed and manufactured spring. My problem with it was that it was very difficult to determine or estimate what size spring I was going to need before buying. My application was that I had built a 2' x 2' 3/4" plywood front door for a box with a piano hinge at the top to support the plywood and a 32" flat panel TV in a motorhome. I wanted the springs to hold the plywood and the TV at about a 45 degree angle when I wanted access to the equipment behind the front door. There was no formula that I found for determining which spring I would need. I decided/guessed on two 30 PSI springs, and I guessed wrong. I could barely close the front flap with both springs attached as there was too much force. I ended up taking one completely out and using only one spring, which works, but means all the support is on one side and nothing on the other. So far so good. I would have appreciated finding a formula either on the Attwood website or here on iBoats with a calculator or estimater on what spring you would need for what application you are developing. That is really my problem for not being able to figure out the needs before and just taking a shot at guessing. The quality of this spring and the brackets were very nice and a high quality.

Does this model come with blade ends?
    These are socket-composite ends.

How do I determine which PSI I need and know how much weight these will handle?
Manufacturer suggests you check locally for guidance on that. There are some variables in determining PSI needed.
