Choosing the correct PSI
by William from Springfield, Missouri on June 10, 2015
I bought the gas springs for the rod lockers on my 1995 Cobra 188D. The existing one was rated at 100PSI which I thought that was way too much. I guessed that it was probably a used replacement. Having nothing else to go on but gut feeling, I opted for the 70PSI. Still way too much, so I ordered the 30PSI and they work WAY better for my application. No complaints about the product, just kinda difficult choosing the correct PSI if don't have a reliable sample.

Attwood Gas Spring replacement
by Daniel from Rochester, New York on August 02, 2017
Needed new gas springs form my boat sun deck over the engine compartment. These Attwood springs were very easy to install, took about 15 minutes with no helpers. My sun deck is quite large, the 50 psi springs work great for me, very happy with this product.

Works as expected
by Justin from Fort Wayne, Indiana on August 27, 2014
The boat store near our lake was asking 40$ for this part and they only had one. Then they recommended I buy a larger one and remount the bracket in the boat for 80$. I looked and this part was exactly the right size and pressure, so I bought two and even with the cost of shipping it still was cheaper than buying one from the other guys, and it only took two minutes to install. It's amazing what you can do with the right part.

Q:
My gas springs are a SL36-60-1 is the SL60-60-5 the same?
A:
Yes it is the same, the "-5" just indicates packaging.

Q:
I put in the wrong number on my question my gas springs are a SL36-60-1 ypurs are SL36-60-5 are they the same?
A:
Yes it is the same, the "-5" just indicates packaging.

Q:
I need the mounting bracket for both ends to hold up the rear deck on my pontoon boat. Do you have those as well?
A:
It will actually depend on the mounting style you need. They offer flat, 90 degrees, etc. You can call us for more guidance or if you know what you need send in another question and we can provide part number.

Q:
My OEM shock has part # SL36-40-1. Will this work?
A:
Yes.

Q:
What gas spring should I use for the Sea Ray 190 bowrider, engine cover. I want to use something a little stronger than the original.?
A:
We don't have original information to know what size and PSI you need unfortunately. You will need to know that information or get it from Sea Ray.

Q:
Are length measurements taken from mid mounting holes or overall length?
A:
The measurement is from the mounting holes.

Q:
How do I determine the strength of shock needed to hold up motor cover when there is 2 shocks. lets say the cover is 50#?
A:
Attwood says that the equation to calculate that is extremely complicated. They suggest going to a local marina to get help on which shocks you need.

Q:
Is this the same as SL-36-20? The ones I'm replacing do not have the "-5" in the model #.?
A:
SL36 indicates model, 20 shows PSI, and the 5 is just packaging. So yes this is the same.

Q:
Will this replace an Atwood SL 16-10-1 spring. 6x15-6 mm rod by 15 mm cylinder?
A:
We do not list that item as of right now. We can look into a special order. Just contact us at the number at the top of the page.

Q:
Which mounting bracket goes with this product?
A:
There are actually a lot of mounting options. We will email you Attwood's options. Just keep in mind this is a 10 mm end fitting.
