So glad they fit
by Janice from Kalaheo, Hawaii on August 20, 2015
just received these gas springs. They fit perfectly . Wish the pictures were larger and more detailed as it would have eliminated a couple of calls and emails to make sure they would fit. My concerns were the fastening ends looked different from my old ones, but they worked great. Thank you for your patience.

High quality replacement, good price
by Carl from Christiansburg, Virginia on May 29, 2015
I installed 2 of these on the rear deck of my 20' Welcraft. 1 of these struts was able to hold the heavy deck up with no problems, so I don't expect to have any problems with both installed!

Quality Product - Hard to determine
by Gary from Shreveport, Louisiana on January 03, 2014
I have found this gas spring to be a very nicely designed and manufactured spring. My problem with it was that it was very difficult to determine or estimate what size spring I was going to need before buying. My application was that I had built a 2' x 2' 3/4" plywood front door for a box with a piano hinge at the top to support the plywood and a 32" flat panel TV in a motorhome. I wanted the springs to hold the plywood and the TV at about a 45 degree angle when I wanted access to the equipment behind the front door. There was no formula that I found for determining which spring I would need. I decided/guessed on two 30 PSI springs, and I guessed wrong. I could barely close the front flap with both springs attached as there was too much force. I ended up taking one completely out and using only one spring, which works, but means all the support is on one side and nothing on the other. So far so good. I would have appreciated finding a formula either on the Attwood website or here on iBoats with a calculator or estimater on what spring you would need for what application you are developing. That is really my problem for not being able to figure out the needs before and just taking a shot at guessing. The quality of this spring and the brackets were very nice and a high quality.

I am in business and buy parts as OEM. I found my gas springs from the original mfg., but got them for half of their price from iboats and they work better than the original equipment. We will see if they last 10 years like the originals did...

iBoats Good/ Attwood support poor
by Peter from Sugar Hill, Georgia on July 21, 2013
I received my gas shock, nicely packaged, in a timely manner and the online purchase was easy. I was totally satisfied up until I needed support about my shock. I received my order on or about July 08 and immediately installed them. To my surprise they did not hold up the load. I was assured by replacing the 15 YO gas shocks with the same part would be a quick fix. I called iBoats and they referred me to Attwood, the supplier of the gas shock. I called Attwood marine and they could not answer my question and referred me to Attwood tech support (616 897-2421) in Michigan. I called the support line and all you get is a recording, please leave your name, number and a brief description and we will return your call. I've been calling since July 9th with absolutely no response. I left my cell number and email address. I was hoping to talk to support and get there thoughts on which shock I should move up to but it looks like I'll just go to my local auto parts store and try a different strength shocks until it works like it should and return my iBoats purchase.

Great Customer Service
by Cary from West Columbia, South Carolina on August 19, 2015
Your customer service people are great, the product showed up a day early and worked perfectly. I will always use you as my first source now. Your only problem is/was I had never heard of you and was told about you by a fellow boater. Had he not told me about you I would have bought the product at a slightly higher price, more costly shipping and slower delivery. Kudos to my friend.

Bayliner engine hatch replacement hydraulics
by John from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on March 30, 2015
I installed 2 of these on the engine hatch of my Bayliner. They were approx. the same size as the worn out ones that no longer worked. I didn't think they would fit since they were an inch longer than the worn out ones. The 1st compress is the toughest. Once you compress them by gripping them and putting all your weight into it against the pavement it will finally give. Install is a 2 person job. I would compress them 10 or so times to get the hang of it before trying to install. Once installed you barely have to lift the hatch for it to pop open and stay there.

Gas charged lift
by Ronald from Bartlett, Illinois on July 18, 2014
Helped my daughter change these on her car and found out how easy it is and so measured and got these for my boat. 10 minutes ended putting up with a engine cover, sun deck that wouldn't stay up for years. Had once asked at a boat shop and got such a ridiculous price on them I just put up with it. These were very reasonable , fit perfectly ---Done. Not surprising these boat dealers are going out of business when they insist on ripping people off. Great service.

They don't build 'em like they used to.
by Frank from Charleston, South Carolina on May 03, 2013
I ordered the exact same part number listed on both pieces needing replacement. They have been in my possession for at least 12 years I believe, and never out of service. For some reason I mistakenly ordered ONE instead of ordering TWO my bad. However, installing the new Gas Spring to replace either of the existing, the cover is never held open to the extent the old Gas Springs are able to accomplish. I would order another but why purchase new when the old is closer to accomplishing the task. I have two old Gas Springs that need to be replaced, AND a brand new Gas Spring that isn't worth it's weight for shipping. Should I take the springs off the cover and take an accurate weight? Please phone or email advice. Frank Smoak 843 834 9162 sales@gunsmoak.com

Attwood Gas Springs are barely doing the job
by John from Fort Mill, South Carolina on March 05, 2016
I installed the new gas springs, just two months ago, and they are not working as well as I had hoped. I have to lift the cover all the way up by hand and it sinks down roughly 2 inches, when I let go. If didn't know any better, I would think that I had installed them 8 years ago because the previous set that I installed had lasted roughly 10 years. It feels like I will need to purchase new springs in the coming year. I do not know if that is typical for this brand.

Nice replacement for old blade end springs
by Min from Ste-Anne-du-lac, Quebec on August 08, 2016
Most gas springs these days have ball and socket style so these blade ends were a nice replacement for an old boat and allowed the re-use of the existing brackets. The gas springs installed in minutes and seem to be of good quality so should last the remaining life of the old boat.
Q:
Does this model come with blade ends?
A:
These are socket-composite ends.

Q:
My number is 1835em 0334n 203/02 A4 is this it?
A:
Not sure what those numbers mean. We can only match it up by knowing your extended length, compressed length, and PSI. Call us at the number at the top of the page and we can look into options.

Q:
Would like to confirm that the spring output is 90 lbs?
A:
The PSI is 90lbs.

Q:
Title says item has blade end and description says item has socket end. Which is correct?
A:
This is blade end.

Q:
Will the sl34 80 5 work in mplace of sl34 80 1?
A:
It is the same part.

Q:
My springs show number SL14-40 no - 5 @ the end. Is this replacement the same?
A:
Yes it is the same part. The five is for shipping purposes only.

Q:
Hi my attawood number is SL14-60-1 socket ends I cant seem to find this one is there a new replacemnet number?
A:
SL14-60-5 is the one you need. It is the same model, the "-5" just indicates the packaging.

Q:
Question concerns a Crownline 202 motor hood gas springs. I think the length is 20" but not sure of the output . The boat now has 30# but those springs won't hold the hood up.?
A:
We do not have original information. There should be a part number on the original to have extended and compressed lengths. If you need to go up in PSI that is fine, but Attwood says that the equation to calculate that is extremely complicated. They suggest going to a local marina to get help on which shocks you need if you are unsure of the output needed.

Q:
I need to replace a pair of SL34-40-1 lifts. Is this SL34-40-5 compatible? Same ball socket size on ends?
A:
The "-1" and "-5" just indicate packaging, nothing more with the gas springs. It's the same gas spring.

Q:
Do you make a gas spring for a very light electronics box for a t top? Only weighs about 2 pounds?
A:
We only make gas springs in this type. You will need to know the compressed and extended length needed along with the PSI count you need. Since you don't have original springs you will need to get mounting brackets as well, but you'll need to start with extended, compressed, and PSI information.

Q:
I need to replace a pair of SL34-100-1. Which units are compatible?
A:
SL34 indicates the 20" extended, 12" compressed size and the 100 is the pressure, since this isn't a normal one they stock, we can special order it for you. Please call in to arrange special order with us.

Q:
How many shocks per package?
A:
1 shock per package

Q:
Will this fit a sundown 205 year 1988 hull number 4wnmj500a888?
A:
We don't have the information to cross-reference these gas springs to your exact boat. These are replacements that may fit your boat. To be sure, you may check the part number on your current gas springs to see if they match up with the Extension, Compressed, and PSI ratings for this part.
