Bottom Protect Primer Kit
by Mark from Dundee, New York on October 19, 2016
Used primer kit for 1964 Boston Whaler 13' Sport hull restoration below true waterline. After 52-yrs hull needed attention where the gelcoat/primer had worn down in spots. Bottom paint would be applied on top of the primer. Most work was in prep: Getting boat of trailer, sanding, and wiping down hull. Bottom Protect kit needs particular attention in mixing. I mixed a qt at a time. Work went very quickly with roller brush. My primer drying times were 45-minutes in 64-degree weather which surprised me. After last primer coat I applied two-coats of Blue Water latex bottom paint as per Primer Kit's instruction. Not including manhandling boat off trailer, sanding, wiping down. Painting took 2.5 hours. I'll let all paint dry two-days before returning to the water. It's October and I live on New York Finger Lakes.
