Bullet Boats: The Story

In the fall of 1980, a very small group of people who were craftsmen in the design and construction of fishing boats founded Bullet Boats, Inc. Quietly and without fanfare, Bullet Boats was established with a commitment to innovation in design. Frankly, we never could understand how people could be proud of a product, which they had not developed themselves. We still can’t. Craftsmanship, quality and integrity are words that mean everything to each person involved in the design and construction of Bullet boats. “A quality boat that provides true high-performance, a very fishable layout and pride in ownership” is the theme that has guided the company from its very first days to its premier position today in the bass boat industry.


Through the years, Bullet Boats have been developed and refined… as have our construction techniques as have the skills of our employees. Since its beginning, Bullet Boats has operated primarily as a production driven company. Increased sales have resulted from increased production as our pool of skilled employees, who take pride in the mastery of their craft, has grown.


At Bullet Boats, our objective is to design and manufacture a very high quality tournament bass boat that out performs any other available today. We have been in the business of building very high quality boats for over 25 years. The Bullet Boats construction methods do not allow for mass manufacturing, so our production is limited. Though not in large quantity, we produce a very strong, high quality boat that will provide many years enjoyment and performance.


Bullet Boats Construction

The more you know about Bullet boats, the greater insight you will have into our unique advantages: lightweight strength, rugged durability, and high performance.


The methodology used in the construction of Bullet boats is termed "hand lay-up," more specifically, hand lay-up utilizing "sandwich core" construction. By applying material by hand, large continuous layers of glass fabrics can be utilized for a distinct advantage in construction. Precise calculations can then determine which glass material at what exact weight should be placed in specific areas of the boat.


The same principle holds true for resin applications in our Bullet Boats. Precise application of resins --just enough to saturate the strands--eliminates weakness and brittleness in composites due to excessive resin. Too much resin adds unnecessary weight to the boat and at the same time reduces its strength.


In addition to the preliminary glass laminates, a layer of end-grain balsa wood is added. Different thicknesses of balsa core are used, according to what testing and engineering have indicated is necessary for that area's particular stress and load. The balsa core is then covered with additional layers of glass fabrics. This type of composite provides enormous structural strength and rigidity, yet keeps overall weight of your Bullet Boat very reasonable.


Along with the glass fabrics used in composites, Kevlar fabrics are also used. The Kevlar reduces weight while significantly increasing strength. High-performance marine resins that are vinyl ester-based are the primary resins utilized at Bullet Boats, because they too greatly enhance the strength of the boat's construction.


An extended mold time allows a thorough curing for all boat parts. The curing process ensures a flawless cosmetic finish and results in a precise hull surface, which enhances handling and speed.
