    The rod consists of 2 stainless steel tubes. Insert inner, grooved tube, into the outer, smooth tube with a twisting motion. Extend / contract the rod to approximate length. Attach 1 end of the rod to the main unit bracket pushing the quick connector's moveable collar down, inserting the end of the ball joint into the quick connector, and releasing the collar. The end should now be held securely in place. Repeat for other end. Reverse order to remove rod. Check for tension. The rod is pre-set to approximately 18-20 lbs. of pressure and should adjust to compensate for this position. Do not oil / grease the rod, as it will gum up the detentes and cause damage to inner rod. Detente System


    Restrictor Cord Needed on Some 4-Stroke Applications: If the auxiliary is being tipped up and after off setting the E.Z. Steer bracket towards the main engine, you are still having a problem of it locking over away from the main engine, you will need a restrictor cord. Contact MarineTech customer service.

i boats get a 5 rating, fast, friendly service, they looked after all the canadian and us taxes. shipping, and customs as quoted and I still saved a couple of hundred dollars over my cost in Canada. The EZ steer gets a 4 rating. It was easy to install with good instructions and works really well. The only complaint is that when trolling with the kicker at approx. 2500 rpm is that the detent tension sytem sometimes slips. I'm going to add a little more tension on the spring loaded balls and see if this corrects the problem. Over all, very satisfied.

Very satisfied with EZ Steer Kit

My set up is a 220 I/O Mercruiser Alpha I Gen II with a Yamaha 8HP HT long shaft version kicker. The installation of the brackets and steering arm was a breeze, I took my time and completed the effort in about 30 minutes. Tightening the inner bolts to my Gen II outdrive was a bit of a challenge as there was not enough room to use a standard ratchet driver, had to get a wrench and only make 1/4 turns to tighten up. The only tricky part of the setup is to have the proper tension on the bar as it extends in and out while turning your main motor. Upon first usage the arm moved to much with the factory standard tension provided by EZ Steer and the two motors we not always aligned. It took me two times to adjust (to tighten) the screws to get the right balance as you want the arm to adjust in and out of each slot as you turn the motor to the extreme left or right - but you also want it to stay in a specific slot once the maximum/minimum extension has been reached. I, very conservatively, made two 1/4 turn (of a full revolution) adjustments to each tensioning screw after my second and third times out respectively. After the second adjustment, both my motors were completely in sync and moving well in and out of the slots, yet holding firmly when required the entire time. Since then I have not done anything and the system works incredibly well! No more steering from the back of the boat! I would highly recommend this set up for anyone with an I/O + kicker if you want to troll effectively and steer from the front.

After years of trying to make a reliable aux steering system. With not the best results. Even using the main as a rudder works but not if you need to turn tight or quick. Did some research and found this product for my bayliner 2452 alpha 1 gen 2, and a 6hp kicker. Works great for my application, fresh water inland lake trolling. Install very easy. Works great very satisfied. A little pricey but worth it to me. Thanks

Rod too short

After following the instructions before ordering to decide on length of the center rod, I decided to order the 19"-22" inches (measuring center to center). It is too short, the rod won't stay if my kicker is all the way up and my main is down. I wish I would have ordered the next one in length. I still can use it, I have to install it once I am on the water and just before using it (need to be carefull not to drop it in the water or fall myself in the water :) ).

Product not as advertised

I ordered this unit for my Honda outboards, the description indicated it was for and "OB to OB" application but it didn't indicated it would NOT work for Honda outboards. I contacted customer support by phone and spoke to a lady named Meagan who indicated she would be back to me later that day, it has been 5 days now and not returned phone call. I have now started a return process on-line and lets see how long that will take, at this point I am waiting to see how the return process progress to determine if I will order anything again from iboats.com.
