Not sure why I am replacing the ARCO 5393 essentially every 3 years especially since the motor (Force 90Hp) is started/used less than 50 times per year. I Live in Wisconsin, so motor is used from late May until mid September on most, not all, long weekends. At the end of the season the motor is winterized and covered up for the winter, like a 100 other boats on my lake. Nobody else has the same starter issues I do. I suspect condensation must be getting into the starter housing and rusting the springs, brushes, and shaft. I am guessing this starter which I understand is spec for Force Engines only is poorly designed or has cheap parts that are sensitive to moisture or weather changes vs other starters. Again, non Force engine boats don't have the same issues with their starters as I have, so I can only assume the starter is of sub quality.

by Hill from Atoka, Tennessee on May 22, 2014
Direct bolt on replacement for the original starter from my 1999 Force 75HP three-banger. The original died when the Bendix shaft broke right in two. Inside of shaft looked like pot metal. I hope this one isn't like that, but I also hope I never find out! Only hung on the flywheel once, that I've seen, as I usually run with the cover on the engine! I was doing some work/maintenance on the engine when it stuck. Hit the key again, spun it right up and retracted back to its normal position. So far, so good, hope it lasts. I saved the old one because it's only a mechanical problem, so if this one dies electrically I can make one good starter from the two bad, maybe. I find it's good to keep stuff, you know, "waste not, want not" but the problem becomes where to keep it, but I digress. I'm pleased with the purchase experience, the product so far, and iBoats.com in general.
