I'm Jim Seidel from Interlux. We're here in a boatyard looking around talking about problems people have painting the bottoms of their boat.

A couple things about Drives, this one, you can see the paint has worn away. The zincs are old and needs new paint. Give a light sanding. You don't have to sand it all the way down. Put a coat of Primocon on and two coats of Pacifica Plus. It's really good antifouling paint for aluminium outdrives or any kind of outdrive because it doesn't contain any copper. It works really well as far as antifouling protection. That will be two coats there and brushing on.

Brushing on is always better than spraying it on because you'll get a much heavier coat of paint, the paint will last longer, and they give you better antifouling protection.

One thing that I think is a really good practice is to cover over the zincs. Put the new zincs on and cover them over so you don't put the paint on the zincs or under the zincs. They're in good contact with the metal and you're not painting over them. They still should put some primer down before they repaint.

You can see on the back here, the antifouling worked really well except on the metal. But that is a really good practice to cover over the zinc before you paint.
