Kasco De-icers come complete for suspended operation from a dock or boat in either a vertical or angle position. Angle operation by suspended method or with optional flotation unit produces an elongated pattern of agitated water. A vertical positioning produces a circular pattern. Kasco Marine offers an optional dock or piling mount. A Kasco De-icer may be operated in either a vertical or several angle positions. The de-icer may be adjusted to a maximum length of 10 feet from the mounting bracket. Kasco De-icers can be attached to our optional flotation kit to create an elongated de-icing pattern in either fresh or salt water.

Each De-Icer boasts the following staples of Kasco equipment:
  • Longer-life top and bottom ball bearings
  • Environmentally friendly oil-filled motor with a hard-face internal mechanical seal and external lip seal for protection against leaks.
  • Flood oil lubricated for excellent heat dissipation.
  • Highly efficient, lower power consumption than competitive equipment
  • Superior dependability in salt-water or other corrosive environments. All external metal motor, float, and hardware components are of stainless steel composition and protected by a sacrificial zinc anode.
  • Requires minimal maintenance. We recommend cleaning the stainless steel motor housing once or twice per year and replacing the sacrificial zinc anode when visibly corroded.
  • Extremely efficient and productive operation generating excellent flow per kW of power used
  • ETL listed to stringent UL and CSA Safety Standards
  • Made with pride in the U.S.A.

[Narrator] Today’s Kasco de-icers are the results of over 40 years of experience in the design and manufacture of superior water agitator equipment. Their main use is the prevention of damaging ice in marinas and harbors or for wet storage of boats in the winter. They can also be used to prevent oxygen related winter kills, attract water fowl in winter and improve the water quality during the summer in stagnant areas.

Kasco de-icers work simply by moving warm bottom water that is heated by the earth to the surface. De-icers can be mounted by rope suspension, a universal dock or piling mount or by a horizontal float. They are different type of ice damage to protect against. One of the most common is ice jacking or lifting of pilings. Lifting damage can occur anytime ice and water fluctuate. The most common cause of lifting is the tide however lifting damage is common in the Great Lakes region where the weather and wind changes can cause smaller but more rapid changes than tides.

Jacking damage can also occur on any body of water regulated by man. Repair costs are not only limited to physical damage but also the downtime of dock facilities and time spent obtaining necessary government permits. Maintaining an ice free zone in and around dock structures is your very best protection against jacking or lifting damage.

[Speaker2] Here on the Wisconsin River below the Weyerhaeuser Dam. I put my dock in the last summer. Put the nice heavy-duty dock in thinking I wouldn’t have a lot of trouble with ice. It turned out to the river kind of chewed it up and spit some polls right out at me. So I called up Kasco Marine and told them my situation, and they came up with some ideas for me.

Okay I used the dock mount. All I’ve done is adjust it mildly around to keep the ice going, it has worked very well. And what they did to work absolutely fabulous. It took the ice out, within two weeks it was completely gone. It looks like it’s going to work very well.

[Narrator] Ice expansion pressure is a vastly underrated damage risk. The size of a body of water is directly proportional to the risk potential. The larger the body of water the larger the potential damage risk will be. Although maybe prefer to maintain and ice free zone around the dock structure it is also possible to limit damage risk with an open water buffer zone. Kasco de-icers placed correctly between docs and expanding ice can relieve damaging expansion pressure.

During harsh winters with thick ice and heavy snowpack your pond can experience a fish die off or Winterkill due to low oxygen levels. The heavy snow and ice prevents sunlight from penetrating into the water causing the existing aquatic vegetation to die off. As the visitation die, the decomposition process uses up much of the available oxygen in the pond. Only a small percentage of the ponds total surface area needs to be ice free to prevent winterkill situations. The cold water will become oxygenated by coming in contact with the air and prevent winterkill on your pond.

Water quality during hot summer weather is an increasing problem for marinas and waterfront developments. Sheltered water behind docks or under walkways where wind and current cannot reach tends to become stagnant and dirty. As a result algae and odor problems often develop destroying and otherwise pleasant outdoor experience. The use of Kasco de-icers during hot summer weather to create a man-made current helps mother nature with her natural cleaning action for improved water quality.

Back in the late 80s, Kasco sent our de-icing equipment and company personnel 312 miles north of the Arctic Circle to help with the whale rescue off the coast of Barrow Alaska. Although Kasco Marine had no official invitation we were convinced our equipment could do the job. So Kasco decided to crash the party. At first local officials did not take Kasco’s de-icing equipment seriously but they quickly became enthusiastic after seeing the great results Kasco delivered. There was also a friendly reception from the whales. Kasco’s 3/4 horse power de-icer on a horizontal float help maintain ice free breathing holes for the trapped whales at temperatures consistently reaching -30°F.

So we’ve seen how Kasco deicers can be used for multiple applications. Kasco is the industry leader in ice control engineering. These energy savers are the standard from the people that know de-icing.

[Mazzola] The Chicago Police Marine unit, Sergeant Mazzola , this is officer Bill Brown. And you can see in the background we have our water-movers working and we’ve had these for approximately six years. We haven’t had any problems and this year Officer Brown put them in all by himself. Bill you could go ahead and tell us what happened there.

[Bill] We carry about 25 - 26 in water when the whole system is fully operational. It keeps a nice ice shelf all the way around the perimeter of the boats. So we are able to move the boats. We have to bring the boats to the wall in order to fuel them during the winter so we can take the boats out and keep us operational all year round. It’s been a very reliable system that we have going here. It keeps us functioning and I don’t know what we would do without them.

De-Icer Portable Thermostat - Kasco Marine
Kasco's NEW C-10 Thermostat Controller is designed to save you money on your electric bills. The C-10 differs from our existing C-20 Controller, in that, it only uses Air Temperature to operate the De-Icer. The C-10 is a simple and inexpensive way to save money and operate your Kasco De-Icer only when it is needed.

To operate, you simply use the dial to set a temperature in which you want the De-Icer to turn on and plug the C-10 into a standard 120V outlet. The Kasco De-Icer then plugs into the C-10 Controller. When air temperature drops to the set reading, the De-Icer will operate. When the temperature rises, it will turn off. There is a built in 2.5 degree Fahrenheit differential within the controller.

It is recommended to set the temperature dial at 30 degrees Fahrenheit.

Using a Kasco 1/2hp, 2400D De-Icer and a C-10 Controller, you can avoid the hassle and expense of removing your dock and boat for as little as $15 per month!

De-Icer Time/Temp Control - Kasco Marine
Kasco's C-20 Time and Temperature De-Icer Control is designed and engineered exclusively for outdoor use to operate your Kasco De-Icer with maximum energy conservation. How the control box is used will vary by region, but as a general guideline, most people will be able to reduce operation time and energy consumption by an additional 50-66%. Users in more severe conditions, such as the Great Lakes, will see less savings. The C-10 Time and Temperature Controller will save you money on your electric bills!

Using a Kasco 1/2hp, 2400D De-Icer and a C-20 Controller, you can avoid the hassle and expense of removing your dock and boat for as little as $15 per month!

The C-20 Time and Temperature Control Box is designed to utilize BOTH the Time AND Temperature features. By utilizing both functions, you can save power by only having the De-Icer running while it is cold enough and in set time intervals. It is recommended to have the unit on in at least 2 hour intervals to set up a proper circulation. Each situation is different and the amount of time needed to maintain an ice free area will differ accordingly. Also, conditions do vary during the year so operation may have to be altered to fit the conditions. Please see the link to Owners Instructions below to see installation and operation instructions, as well as operation recommendations.

The timer pins should be pulled upward for the desired time frame the De-Icer should be set to run. The thermostat dial should be set to the outside temperature the De-Icer should operate. When, and only when, the temperature drops below the temperature the thermostat is set in a time frame that the timer is ON (pins pulled upward), the De-Icer will operate.

De-Icer Prop "K", F2400/D - Kasco Marine
De-Icer Universal Dock Mount - Kasco Marine
Kasco Marine, Inc. offers an optional Universal Dock Mount or piling mount that can be used with any Kasco De-Icer. This heavy-duty Universal Dock Mount or piling mount is made from corrosion protected steel and stainless steel to withstand the toughest marine conditions. The De-Icer is mounted to the "underwater parts" of the Universal Dock Mount and the "above water" parts are mounted to the dock or piling. Due to shipping limitations, a 1" pipe extension needs to be supplied by the purchaser to connect the "underwater parts" and "above water" parts.

The De-Icer may be operated in a vertical or several different angled positions. The De-Icer may also be adjusted to a maximum depth of 10' from the above water mounting brackets and it may be moved 360 degrees. This allows for a variety of operating positions and is able to fit and adapt to many different situations and conditions.

De-Icer Horizontal Floatation Unit - Kasco Marine
Kasco Marine, Inc. offers an exclusive, arctic proven flotation kit that is optional for all De-Icers. The easy-to-assemble kit consists of stainless steel components and a flotation block. The De-Icer unit is mounted horizontally to the surface of the water, just below the flotation block. The De-Icer can be angled in several positions; horizontal and above and below horizontal.

The horizontal operation of the De-Icer produces an elongated pattern of agitated water. This is well suited for tough problems such as shallow water areas, areas where water and ice levels fluctuate such as tidal waters, or where elongated open water areas are desired, such as around long docks. With adjustable angles above and below horizontal, the De-Icer can also be suited to fit many water depth and obstruction conditions.

Using a Kasco De-Icer with the Horizontal Float is also a great tool to improve summer water quality and eliminate stagnant water. It can also be used to push debris into an area that it is easily removed.

by Donald from St Louis, Missouri on January 02, 2012
Upon installation i always verify operation by bypassing t-stat. Deicer did not start. I pulled from water and spun blade thru several times then dropped back in water and tried again. This time it started. Restarted several times and all apears well. Cant help but think if i may have a problem later in season. I will say deicer moves considerable amount of water to keep my dock clear and is built solid. There was no mention of my experience as stated above in the operating booklet so my reason for a score of 4. Thanks

My 4th Kasco De-Icer, I purchased 1 a couple years back for my dock in Canada, and have purchased 3 since for neighbors on the lake who had "cheaper" units, and returned in the spring to find their docks and ice eaters gone with the thaw. you can even drill a hole in frozen over area's put these in and the ice will be gone in a few days ....amazing product.

This is their NEW model that is designed for De-Icers, not for HVAC (older model). Here's what you need to know for your application: - Weather proof - Controlls ONE De-Icer, Max Load = 16 Amps - Works with Air Temperature Change only - NEW Adjustable Air Temperature Switch (0 to 80 Degs F) (NOT 30 to 110) - 2 degree accuracy - 2.5 degree differential (Temp Change needed to Switch De-Icer On/Off) - 8 ft power cord w/piggy-back plug (De-Icer plugs into back of power cord plug) Through all the turbulent 2014 weather conditions, it has worked PERFECTLY! Typpical Single De-Icer Loads 1/4 Hp = 2+ Amps 1/2 Hp = 5+ Amps 3/4 Hp = 7+ Amps 1.0 Hp = 10+ Amps

Q:
I'd like to use kasco de-icer portable thermostat to turn ON my brand X pond de-icer at air temperature 30 degrees (or if I wish, 31 or 32 degrees), and then does it turn OFF my pond de-icer as soon as air temperature goes back above that set point temperature?
A:
You can use this thermostat on your brand as long as the plug is compatible. When air temperature drops to the set reading, the De-Icer will operate. When the temperature rises, it will turn off. This is it's design.
Q:
What HP is needed for small 10 ft deep lakefront in Indiana with E shaped dock and large 25 ft. pontoon lift?
A:
3/4 HP covers up to 75 feet diameter. That's what you will need to know. Only 1-2% of the total surface area needs to remain ice free to prevent the devastation.
Q:
De icer was on while out of water because tide was pushed out. does not run now. can motor be repaired?
