Blue Sea Systems Tech Tip: How A BusBar Should Be Rated
Learn how to rate and understand "how" and "why" a busbar functions. ...read more
A busbar is a system of electrical conductors in a generating or receiving station which the concentration of the power is for the distribution of power. Busbars are required to undergo a rating process in order to determine which busbar will work on varying applications. According to American Boating and Yacht Council and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the best way to rate a busbar is to measure it at its highest amperage. It is also important to check the temperature of the busbar to see if it rises between 40 and 50 degrees Celsius.
Something to take note of when obtaining the busbar amperage rating is to see how thick the cross section is. The thicker the cross section is, the more material there is, and the larger the surface area is (which is better for the cooling process). Using this material is primarily for improving electron flow.
We do recommend obtaining a second opinion from a mechanic during this process.
