Full StarFull StarFull StarFull StarFull StarFixed the Problem!
by Daniel from Cotati, California on November 24, 2015
It happened twice! I got to the ramp and when I tried to start the motor, it sounded like a dead battery was trying to crank the motor. I knew the battery was good, almost new and fully charged. Saw some You Tube videos about rebuilding the starter, and/or replacing the brushes, and got just enough confidence to do the job myself. The link below shows a guy replacing the brushes on the exact same motor I have. The old brushes detached from the same brush at the same exact place as is shown in the video. This Sierra brush kit has more substantial cables than the OEM brushes I removed. Once installed, the motor fired right up! No problems since, and I am confident these will last for the rest of the life of the motor. Order shipped right away and was received on time.

I found what I wanted on the site, they were the correct brush kit. AND the kit was on my doorstep 4 days earlier than quoted. This is the second order I have placed for parts and I am very happy with Thank you. Tom

Full StarFull StarFull StarFull StarFull StarEasy - Pezzy!
by James from Middletown, Indiana on April 07, 2012
After taking my starter apart and seeing the mess inside, and then viewing the new Brush Spring Kit I needed to replace, I really wondered if I would be qualified to really do it. I figured that since the price was within reason it would be worth while to attempt it. Everything was an exact fit and for someone who had never done this before I found it quite easy and the biggest surprise came when I held my breath, applied voltage to the starter, and the darn thing worked great. Total assembly time was about 15 minutes. Need second person when putting starter back together for an additional 5 to 10 minutes. remember: "NOTHING VENTURED, NOTHING GAINED"!!!

by Linda L from Woodstock, Illinois on September 15, 2011
Your description of this brush kit says that it will work on 7.5 HP Mercury Motor with serial numberxxxxxx and beyond. The serial number of my motor is 6507461 which is higher than your listed number....the brush kit does not fit. I sent it back but have not yet received credit. Product may be ok but not for my motor

Will this brush kit work for my mercury 150?
Yes, this is a standard replacement kit for most Mercury engine models.
This will fit my 1995 40 horse 4 cylinder outboard model 1040200RB?
Yes, this is a standard replacement kit for your engine.
How do get the plate holding the brushes back over the armature?
It depends on the starter motor and so we would recommend contacting your engine dealer or order a repair manual we offer:
Does this fit my 60 hp Mercury ?
This is a specific brush kit for Arco's 6218 motor only.
1989 40 hp merc S# oc168446 are these the correct brushes?
No what cross references with your OEM number is Arco's part number BK900.
Will this work on my old Mercury trim tilt motor? It's a 1977, it looks right but wanted to make sure, this is a 3-wire motor that's all round casing and two bolt hook up. Thanks?
We will need to know engine model to cross reference numbers. This fits Mercury outboard motors with oildyne pump. So we will just need to know your HP to look up parts to confirm.
