The R2 VHF Radio is a fully GMDSS compliant VHF safety radio approved to ETS300, IMO, EU MED (Ships wheel), FCC and SOLAS regulations which can also be used for day to day communications
The R2 is a flexible VHF radio solution that complies with all of the GMDSS emergency radio requirements when fitted with a Lithium Battery pack (Part No. 84-LTB3) and also, through the option of a fitted re-chargeable Nicad Battery Pack (Part No. 84-NC08), can be used as a general usage hand-held radio. A range of rapid and trickle chargers are also available for the Nicad Battery. The R2 is supplied as a main body and antenna, with all accessories, batteries and chargers user selectable to suite individual requirements. The R2 has 19 Simplex channels and the following operational functions; dual watch, scan memory, squelch, scan all, scan priority, tri-watch, illumination control, 2.5W / 1W selectable transmission power.It is waterproof to 1 meter and drop tested to cope with the toughest marine environments.
The R2 Lithium battery pack complies to the GMDSS handheld VHF Radio requirements and must be purchased along with the R2 main body and antenna to comply with IMO, FCC and SOLAS GMDSS rules and regulations. It has a 5 year storage life. The battery is clearly marked with the expiry date and under IMO and SOLAS rules the lithium battery must be replaced by this date or immediately after it has been used, whichever is the sooner. The R2 Lithium Battery Pack is classed as hazardous for shipping purposes.
The Nicad Battery Pack must be purchased if you wish to use the R2 VHF for general day to day radio communication. In this case, if you wish to comply with the GMDSS rules you must also purchase a Lithium Battery Pack and keep it in a secure location close to the R2 VHF, in preperation for any emergencies. A suitable charger will need to be selected for this battery option. The Nicad Battery Pack is classed as non-hazardous for shipping purposes.
