For this change to be made, General Motors had to redesign the cylinder block and crankshaft discontinuing the earlier style engines. Mercury has added engine coupler # 14505-A2 (18-2172/AP# 1847) to compensate for this change in design. After checking your product I find the coupler flywheel to spline alignment to be 2 to 3 degrees off. Making it impossible for proper spline to gimble bearing alignment.
