Why do all of the work when a DeckHand will do it for you? The electric winch will automatically raise or lower your anchor at the touch of a button. A special anti-drag system senses the bottom to allow for controlled drifting. Or, with the touch of a button, lock the winch to prevent drifting.

NOT FOR SALT WATER USE
Features:
  • 20- to 40-pound anchor capacity (anchor not included).
  • Pre-spooled with 100 feet of 800-lb test rope.
  • Auto-drift feature automatically stops the motor when the anchor touches bottom (or hits an obstacle); when slack in the rope becomes tight, rope is automatically released; lock the winch with the touch of a button.
  • Universal davit can be mounted at base of DeckHand™ or in remote position on boat deck; stows anchor horizontally to eliminate anchor swing.
  • Anchor shackle allows for easy changeover from anchor to anchor.
  • Stow and deploy switch integrated into the base of the unit.
  • Corded remote stow and deploy switch (sold separately) allows operation of DH-40 from anywhere on the boat.
  • Compatible with MKA-16-02 quick release bracket - ideal for easy removal for boat cover clearance or clearing the deck during non-use (requires holes to be drilled in top plate of quick release bracket).
  • 12-volt battery operation.

After pulling my lower back out twice hauling up my 28 lb anchor, I decided to get a deckhand 40 lb anchor winch. Being a fan of the Minn Kota products, I went with this brand. In order to install, the plastic cover has to be removed and is then hanging on by electrical wires that run from the winch motor to the switches. The cover was always in the way and so I just marked the wires and unhooked them to keep from damaging the wires and their connectors (I personally recommend). The wire connectors are simple male/female spade connectors so no cutting and splicing is needed. I had space the winch up 3 inches to clear the sides of the boat as the front deck on my boat doesn't sit flush with the sides. The mounting holes on the winch are a bit of a hassle as the holes are located under the winch parts, not allowing the bolts to be dropped straight down through the holes. Having to use the longer bolts to go through my 3 inch spacer, it was tricky getting the bolts in and through the holes. I've used it 2 times so far and have no complaints about the performance of the DH-40. It pulls the 28lb navy anchor up with no problems and keeps it firmly stored in place. One hit on the seller, My particular DH-40 was either a return or a demo. One of the philips head screw-heads holding on the cover was shelled out and I could tell that the cover had been taken off before. One wire was unhooked inside which didn't allow the anchor to be released (likely reason for a return). After figuring out where the wire went and connecting it, the DH-40 worked properly. I kept the unit regardless as it all worked properly.
