Full StarEmpty StarEmpty StarEmpty StarEmpty Starnot sure how the sizing is done??
by Robert from Goose Bay, Lab, Newfoundland & Labrador on September 06, 2015
I bought this 9" Moeller and when it came it was a 8". I contacted them and they sent me another one at no charge but we ordered a 10" expecting it to be a 9" where the other one was a inch smaller and it was a 11". So now I have 2 and neither is the size I wanted. I'm hoping I can make it work but not sure..so im unsure of how the sizing is done.

Full StarFull StarFull StarEmpty StarEmpty StarPoor identifier for size
by James from Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey on August 14, 2015
To pick the correct depth for my tank I had to remove my old sending unit and measure the length of its extension. No other information or instruction on picking the correct unit was available. When it arrived the information I couldn't find was available on the packaging. Results are a gauge that works wonderfully but doesn't read the true amount of remaining gas. I have an additional inch of clearance to the bottom of the tank which equates to about 10 gal additional beyond the reserve that would already exist with correct sending unit. For those of you in the same situation......... Measure from the top of the sending unit and not just the down rod for length. Then you can order the correct size. As it is , I should never run out of gas if I refill when empty. I will have close to a thirty mile window.

Full StarFull StarFull StarFull StarFull Starbetter than original
by Alfred from Fayetteville, North Carolina on January 26, 2012
This replacement fit with zero modification. Though 1/2 inch longer than the original that was in my Bayliner 2150, it seems to be the shortest one made these days. The warning literature says you should have on-inch clearance between the bottom end of the switch and the tank bottom. I have only 1/2 inch clearance but since there is near zero flex in my system, I am comfortable. This replacement has a stainless tube which is an improvement over the old design. I was pleased to see that the accompanying literature included the ohm readings for full empty which I confirmed before doing the install. My gage reads perfectly now. Thanks!

The above rating does not apply. I am reasonablly sure it would have worked OK. I had to return the switch due to a length requirement problem. The best tank depth I could obtain prior to the order for the tank depth was 8 1/2". When I received the new unit, I removed the old unit to find out the new unit was 1/2" to long. It appeared to work OK other wise. In my return request I asked if it would be possible to obtain a unit 7" in length, I did not receive a reply. I only received the return information which wroked OK. Thanks for the help. Regards, Woody

Full StarFull StarEmpty StarEmpty StarEmpty StarThe answer to the question is incorrect.
by James from Chatham, Massachusetts on July 28, 2015
The actual length of the tube is 5 inches. The title, 6 inch sending unit refers to the depth of the tank. The tube is 1 inch shorter, so as to have a gas reserve when the gauge reads empty.

Full StarFull StarFull StarFull StarEmpty StarBe Careful Choosing the Right Size
by James from Chatham, Massachusetts on July 26, 2015
Note that the length in the product name refers to the tank depth, not the length of the shaft, which is 1" shorter. For example, Reed Switch Sending Unit, 7" has a 6" shaft and therefore is for a 7" deep tank (1" clearance between the bottom of the shaft and the bottom of the tank provides a gas reserve when the gauge reads empty). The FAQ associated with the 6" model states incorrectly that the shaft length is 6". It is not, it is 5".

Easy to install and works like a charm. After having taken my boat to the repair shop and they told me they couldn't find anything wrong I decided to change out the sending unit and now I am back in business. Make sure to pull your old unit out and measure tank depth prior to ordering.

by Daniel from Bon Secour, Alabama on November 23, 2012
I am restoring my 1977 Bass Boat and removed fuel tank to replace fuel lines and clean the tank. the gasket and screws on my sending unit were badly deteriorated and had to be replaced. The replacement gasket and screw set from Iboats was a high quality perfect fit. It has helped me get one step closer to completing my restoration. Thanks again Iboats!

Full StarFull StarFull StarFull StarEmpty StarExtra Gasket
by Jeff from Williston, North Dakota on August 05, 2011
I purchased a gas tank sending unit. The product description, on the web, did not say that it included a gasket. So I purchased a gasket separately. When the sending unit arrived, a gasket came with it. Now I have a spare gas tank sending unit gasket. New screws that came with the sending unit did not fit the gas tank, I had to use the old screws. Other than that, everything was/is great. My order arrived very quickly.

Q:
I pulled out my current unit (Wema) and measured it from the bottom of the round lid to the bottom of the tube. It measured 8.5 inches. I see that you do not sell an 8.5 inch unit. Did I measure this correctly or should I buy the 8 or 9 inch unit? I closed up everything already and did not measure the depth of the tank. Thanks,?
A:
You can order the 9 inch to make sure you have enough, but the best and most accurate thing to do is measure the depth of the tank and minus 1" to get correct length.
Q:
Used with diesle tanks? or gas only??
A:
This sender will work with both diesel and gas.
Q:
My tanks measures 10" on the outside will these on work or do i need to go shorter?
A:
No, this will be the best/most compatible option for you.
Q:
I HAVE A 1989 SUPRA COMP WHAT SENDING UNIT DO I NEED?
A:
Since we are aftermarket we do not have original information. You will need to know what sending unit and length you require. Best thing to do is refer to your boat manual or you may need to contact your boat manufacturer for more information.
Q:
Can I use this sender with my existing gauge or will I have to purchase a new gauge as well?
A:
No you can use this sender for your current fuel gauge.
Q:
How do I determine what length unit to order after measuring my tank depth on the outside of the tank?
A:
You measure from the top of the tank to the bottom of the tank and for reed switches you have to subtract an inch to get your measurement.
Q:
I there a version for a 24-27" tank?
A:
Unfortunately, we do not have any reed switch sending units in those measurements. We only have an electric sending unit that ranges between 4"-27". If you would like to see that, click on this link: http://www.iboats.com/4-27-Electric-Sending-Unit-Kit-with-Gauge-Moeller/dm/view_id.392306
Q:
Moeller's web site lists this part number as a 6" sending unit. What is the actual length of the tube?
A:
Yes it is 6".
Q:
Tank is 5 1/2 in. deep-unit is 5in.-its on a 94 capri w/20 gal. tank -do you have a unit that will work?
A:
Since your tank depth is 5.5" you need to minus one inch off that. So you would need a 4.5". We can look into a possible special order from Moeller by contacting us at the number at the top of the page. Part number you need is 395059-045SC.
Q:
Is it black as shown or white?
A:
It is black.
Q:
What Moeller fuel gauge goes with the Moeller fuel tank #032528?
A:
The gauge you need from Moeller is 33 to 240 ohms. The part number is 035727-10
Q:
Can this be used as a replacement unit for a 99 Malibu Response LX S/N: US-MB2F9748A999 (9" tank)?
A:
Yes, this will work for your application.
