I have a 2006 model Monterey 290. It is my first serious boat and now as I understand it I skipped the expense of buying a smaller boat & then realizing I needed something bigger -- I basically skipped straight to the 2nd boat with heaps of room for the family and friends I test drove many boats & went out on many friends boats -- but I found the Monterey to the best overall package. Especially when you combine performance with comfort. I especially found the handling and performance of the Monterey to be unreal -- for boat of 31 feet it responds really well. I also like the fact that when cruising at 6 to 10 knots the boat pointed really well & you didn't have to constantly fight it to keep it in a straight line which is what I found with many other similar boats....this has made cruising at low speeds a pleasure. There is plenty of room in the cabin & the head is very roomy compared to other boats I looked at -- I can easily stand up right & take shower with ease. We often camp out on the boat for long week-ends with my wife & 2 kids -- there is plenty of sleeping room in the cabin for the whole family with more sleeping room in the cockpit for any visitors. About the only thing I don't like about the boat is the anchor chain snubber -- they need to change that item. Regards, Paul
