Motor works very well. Speed control and shift are smooth as is the motor. I have it on a Hobie Outfitter Kayak, mounted just behind the rear seat, on the right side. Wish the motor had a 2 to 4 inch longer shaft as the prop is too close to the surface of the water when fully lowered and cavitates at higher speeds only. The motor mount and the shaft lock don't leave much adjustment room on the shaft. The motor should ship with a 50 amp circuit breaker wired into the positive lead be sure to buy the breaker separately and install before using the motor. MotorGuide sells one. The motor tips up easily which is important in order to avoid the extra drag when peddling the kayak without it.
