  • iboats.com Reviews Nordic Tugs: Manufacturer of Nordic Tug Boats, Cruising Trawler boats.

Nordic Tugs began when Jerry Husted bought Blue Water Boats in the early 1970's. Blue Water, owned by Jim Musser, manufactured ocean ketches and introduced Jerry to Lynn Senour, the naval architect who had worked for them designing the rigs and the interior layouts of the Musser boats.
With the help of Lynn, Jerry set about coming up with an idea that would work well in an economy of oil shortages and rising gas prices. With the idea of a powerboat the would be fuel efficient, the tug boat came to mind. Lynn Senour came on board with the assurance that designing a semi- displaced hull and everything under the waterline was in his hands, so he got to work.

With a design looking back at the 1930's tugs that had noticeable fuel economy, working to provide a silent ride and a comfortable living area the Nordic Tug trawlers came into being. Now based in Burlington, Washington(WA) the tug boats are produced with quality in mind. Nordic Tug does over 120 checks of processes and components before the two parts are bonded together to ensure that each part is ready and up to speed. During construction of the Nordic Tugs, mat fiberglass cloth with a multi-direction stitch and vinylester resin are used for increased strength and durability, stainless steel reinforcements are added in the critical spots. These cruising trawlers have from 1,200 to 1,500 parts and each is chosen carefully to make it more durable and add to its performance as well as the aesthetic quality of the new boat. Once the meticulous finish work is completed and the checks take place in the factory, then is taken to the water for a day long trials at sea. Only then after adjustments are made is the cruising trawler ready to be turned over to it's buyer.

The original tug boat was 26' long and many of them were sold as workboats. Longer lengths came in to play as the boating public wanted a bigger trawler. Eventually the 26' trawler was retired as the 34' 39' and 54' tug boats were the line up with updated interiors and integrated platforms at the transom. Twelve years later the demand for the 26' tug brought it out of retirement in limited numbers, soon it became apparent that the 26' model needed to stay in the tug boat line. So updated for new advances in technology plus the original styling that has proved timeless the 26' tug is here to stay. Nordic Tugs also offer a refit program to refurbish, refit, repair or remodel your existing boat. Whether you need to have your stateroom updated, add bow thrusters, air conditioning or new storage shelves, carpet and counter-tops, Nordic Tug's expert craftsman are ready to work.
