Precision on board battery chargers feature multi function LED indicator lights for each charging bank, to assist in setting up and monitoring the charge process. During the standard charge process the yellow LED's will remain on, to indicate the process of the charge cycle. Each LED will turn on to indicate the level of the batteries charge once the battery has reached that level of charge. One solid yellow LED indicates a 25% charge, two would indicate a 50% charge and so forth until the battery is fully charged at 100%. Once the charger has completes a charge cycle the green LED will flash to indicate that the battery if fully charged and is in maintenance mode. At this point the battery is ready to use. If the charger is left plugged in once the battery is fully charged, the green LED will change from flashing to steady after a period of 12 hours to indicate the charger has gone into long term maintenance mode.
The red LED indicated a problem or error with the charger. A steady red LED indicated that there is an issue with the connection. If this LED is on, make sure your charger is plugged in and connected to the battery properly. For instructions on how to properly connect your charger, refer to your owners manual. In the unlikely event the charger were to sense an error. The Red LED will begin to flash. To determine what the error is, refer to the error conditions section of the owners manual.
The multi function LED's are also used to indicate battery type selection and equalization mode when the battery selection button is pressed or held down. While interacting with the battery selection button below each bank the LED's will indicate the selection being prompted by the button. Upon release they will then turn back to indicate the battery's level of charge.

One of the unique features of the Minn Kota Precision chargers is the ability to charge multiple battery chemistries from the same charger. Different battery types require specific charging profiles in order to charge properly. On a Minn Kota Precision charger, each output bank is independent and isolated from the next. This allows each bank to be set up for different charging profiles which means you are able to charge different types of batteries at the same time.
A Minn Kota Precision charger can charge independent batteries or a combination of batteries that are connected in a series or parallel without having to disconnect them. Precision on board battery chargers feature multi function LED indicator lights for each charging bank to assist in setting up and monitoring the charge process. Each bank on the battery charger can be uniquely set to charge a flooded lead acid, gel cell, AGM, or high performance AGM battery. Precision chargers come pre-set from our manufacturing line to charge flooded acid batteries. To optimize the performance of your batteries and prevent damage, we recommend manually setting each charging bank to the type of battery it will be charging.
Changing the battery type is a simple process that can be easily done during any time of the chargers use. First make sure your charger is plugged into an AC outlet. While the charger is powering up, all the LED's will flash once. One Yellow LED will then remain temporarily on. The LED is indicating the current battery type that is selected for each bank to charge. In this case, flooded acid which is the factory pre-set. The charger will then begin its charge cycle and the LED will move accordingly to indicate the level of charge for the selected battery type.
To change the battery type selected, press and hold the battery selection button beneath the bank that you wish to change. The yellow LED will show you the current selection. 3 LED's will then light up before the yellow LED continues to cycle through your selection options. Gel, AGM, and flooded. Release the button when the LED lights up next to your desired battery type. In this example AGM. Once the new battery type has been selected the LED will return to 25% and begin the charge cycle for the new battery type. The charger will save the newly selected battery type for that bank even when the AC or DC output cords are disconnected.
To confirm which battery type is selected for a bank you can press and release the battery selection button once. A yellow LED will flash once at the selected battery type and then return to the 25% level, indicating that the charge cycle has started over. Every so often your flooded lead acid batteries should be equalized, in order to assure that all of the batteries lead plates are clean and ready to take a charge. Only flooded lead acid batteries should be equalized. To check how often your battery should be equalized, check the manufacturers recommendations in your batteries owners manual.
Minn Kota precision chargers have an equalization mode for when it is time to equalize your flooded acid battery. To set the equalization mode, press and hold the battery selection button until all three yellow LED's are lit. Then release the button. The three LED's will remain lit for a few seconds and will be followed by a flashing yellow LED at the 25% marker. This indicates that the equalization process has begun. Once this cycle is completed, or interrupted by unplugging the ac/dc cord, the charger will revert back to the normal charge mode for flooded lead acid battery type. It is not a true maintainer. It outputs in maintenance mode for 24 hours after full charge.
This will setup a trickle charge for 24 hrs after the batteries are fully charged and then shut down. Once the battery voltage drops below 12.6V it will kick back on and top the batteries off again with a full charging cycle. Not having the constant trickle charge keeps it from boiling off your electrolyte as fast as a constant charge would do.
