The pump will turn on every 2-1/2 minutes to sense for water. If water is present, the pump will sense resistance and continue to run until all the water is removed. Thereafter, it will check for water every 2-1/2 minutes.Power use in the checking mode is minimal.

No more worries
by Patrick from Delphi, Indiana on August 06, 2016
So far this is great. I had a Rule manual pump and once this year my boat almost sunk. I bought the automatic one and now I don't worry at night when I hear it raining.

compact pump with a punch
by Joseph from Wareham, Massachusetts on January 08, 2015
I have installed this pump in my Pungo 140 kayak behind the seat. I am using a 12V 7.5 Ahr battery to run it. I am using a 4 prong trailer connection to connect the pump to the battery. I am using a minibungee cord to hold the pump in place. I have used the pump once on New Years day but did not take on enough water for the pump to actually pump out. It did cycle on and off briefly as described. I look forward to not having to bail or manually pump in the future.

Works great!

Works as it is suppose to (constant ck every couple minutes, manual on or off - attached to a 3-way toggle switch). Easy installation. Great safety feature for my boat.

Rule Auto Bilge Pump
by Steve from Fremont, California on September 22, 2012
I had a manual bilge in my boat and wanted an automatic one. I installed this Rule 800 GPM bilge. It has wiring for auto and manual over-ride which was a feature I wanted. I debated at first whether to add a 3 position switch, but opted to just connect the auto wire direct to the battery through a fuse since I have a battery on/off switch. This bilge automatically runs a 1-2 second test where it briefly switches on to measure resistance (presence of water in the bilge changes this resistance activating the pump). This self test runs every few minutes so you definitely need a way to shut it off when the boat is not in the water.
