I purchased the Trollmaster Pro3 to remotely control the steering and speed of a Yamaha 9.9 outboard motor. The installation directions are a pdf file on a dvd that comes with the product. I didn't want to print the directions, and chose to carry my laptop out to the boat. The directions and photos were clear, and I spent about thirty minutes connecting the servo motor to my trolling motor's throttle. I plugged in the wire to my electrosteer T4, the wire to the servo motor, and the remote control to the Pro3 electronics box. I pushed the on/off button on the wired remote. The display read "idle". I hit the IDLE button and a number showed on the display, turning the knob caused the number to increase, turning it the other way caused it to decrease. The stepper motor that is linked to the throttle made very small advances when the number on the remote display changed. I hit MAX THTL, the stepper arm made a big jump (about a half inch). Even MAX THTL did not change the throttle position on the carburetor. I removed a screw on the stepper motor and pulled the drive arm loose. I repositioned it. The stepper motor now advanced the Yamaha's throttle, although not fully, as the Pro3 connecting rod was thin and bowed under pressure from the Yamaha's throttle spring. I was satisfied the system worked so I unplugged the motors to route their wires properly from my battery compartment where I mounted the electronics box. The installation complete, I tested the Trollmaster. I could not get the remote to turn on, this perplexed me since I had not messed with the electrical box power connections to the battery. I checked the inline fuse, it looked good, but I replaced it anyway, still no power. The battery was strong, able to raise and lower the Yamaha 200 hp main motor. Friday morning I called the Marinetech's technical support number. I left a message and waited for them to get back to me. I hadn't heard from them by Tuesday so I called Iboats customer support. Customer support authorized a return. I sent the Pro3 back and had a replacement two days later. The replacement Pro3 had some improvements. The servo motor advanced smoothly, where the first was erratic. The throttle rod was heavier. The wire running to the T4 no longer had butt connectors that you could reverse if the boat went right when you pushed the left button on the remote. Marinetech had replaced these with soldered, heat shrink protected connections. Scott, the technician told me you could cut and resolder these if the button function were reversed (as mine are with the T4 installed between the motors,) but I figure I'll get used to steering without looking at the remote, and will leave well enough alone. The remote steering and throttle are installed and seem to work fine. I will update this review, after using the system this fall salmon season.
