  • About Windy Boats
  • The Story ofWindy

Windy Boats AS was established in 1966 by Mr Hugo Vold. His father was a fisherman and his family had many anxious moments as storms raged in the Skagerrak Channel. All his fathers boats were called "Vindy", and he brought every one of them safely back to port. Mr Hugo Vold, with his deep respect for the sea and the weather, became a boat builder who wanted his vessels to be known for their seaworthyness and high quality. He called his boats "Windy" in honour of his father's trusty fishing boats.

Manufactured since 1966, Windy sport cruisers and yachts are handcrafted in two production facilities in Scandinavia. Headquartered in Arendal, Norway, the birthplace of Windy. The flagship factory manufactures the 25 Mirage up to the 43 Typhoon. The larger vessels, the 52 Xanthos, 53 Bailos and 58 Zephros are meticulously handcrafted in Vastervik, Sweden .

To ensure your safety and stability in any type of seas, rest assured your Windy can handle it. All of our boats are rigorously tested in offshore conditions in the North Sea and all carry, at minimum, a Class B Certified Hull rating.
Scandinavian craftsmanship since 1966, with two state of the art facilities located in Norway and Sweden

    Development

When Windy Boats AS was established in 1966, a fine leisure boat was created first and foremost thanks to the skilled craftsmanship that had been handed down through the generations. It is still the case today that the craftsman has the greatest influence on the finished product, however, dialogue with the market inspires our creativity in different directions, involving new ideas and an alternative way of thinking. During this development process, our architects are assisted by extremely precise IT tools and simulation software enables us to optimise the characteristics on which we intend to focus in a new Windy. This three-dimensional imaging simplifies the choices we have to make during the process that leads to the final product. The result is a breathtaking Windy boat that embodies the best of modern technology as well as traditional Scandinavian craftsmanship.

    Maritime Tradition

All our models are hand-built by skilled craftsmen. The fine woodwork and exclusive textiles are important distinguishing features of a Windy in just the same way as the modern technology is involved in the construction materials, and the control and propulsion systems. Pride in craftsmanship is something that has been handed down through centuries of Norwegian boat building. Windy boats are built in an area which is at the very heart of the Norwegian boat building tradition, in Arendal on the southern coast of Norway. It was in this same town that the first wooden pleasure boats were built for the country's prosperous sailing-ship masters and owners. In these waters, kings and princes competed in yacht races in their beautiful metre boats. This is where fibreglass boats first appeared nearly 40 years ago. All of this tradition is embodied in a Windy .

The cabin interiors of all the boats are quite simply exquisite. The cabinetry work is all manufactured with the finest quality of solid woods from around the world which are meticulously handcrafted where curves and joints mesh together seamlessly.
