Description

INTERNATIONAL RACING YACHT
15% OFF UNTIL FEBRUARY 15, 2009
Amongst the first production yachts of its kind, this extraordinary performer is built
using technology previously only used for one-off custom yachts.
This ground breaking methodology results in a powerful, super-fast, one design race
yacht, with uncompromising up and down wind capabilities.
The yacht is designed for maximum thrills and excitement while remaining simple to
sail, in both inshore and ocean racing events.
With a clean interior, aluminum spars and without running backstays, the vessel is at the cutting edge of performance racing!
Designed by the world-renowned yacht designers, Reichel-Pugh Yacht Designs U.S.A.
and built in Cape Town, the vessel was conceptualized by
renowned yachtsman, Geoff Meek. Meek is the skipper for South Africa’s
America’s Cup Challenge Yacht, Shosholoza.
Brief to the Reichel-Pugh design team was that the yacht be not only robust
and long lasting, but also really simple to sail. Hence, the yacht is totally
uncompromising in terms of fun, thrills and excitement.
This 37-foot production Fixed Keel Racer is built entirely in Vinyl Ester Epoxy while state-of-the-art specifications have demanded that only the highest quality and most exotic
materials available have been used throughout.
The objective behind producing a yacht of this kind was to provide a light, superfast,
extremely easy to sail yacht, which is undoubtedly a world-beater in its
segment of the market. Although only 37 feet in length, weighing
only 3550 kilograms and with a ballast ratio of 60%, this racing yacht
holds her own against the best. Being smaller in size, the yacht is both
economical and affordable, yet is proven to be on the winner’s podium at
all the International racing events, be it in round-the-buoys or ocean racing.
The deck layout is standardized and streamlined to a degree of such supreme simplicity that it will be an absolute pleasure to step aboard and cast off. The design also allows for
easy interior layout conversion for either day sailing or ocean races.
Reichel-Pugh designs’ hold the following race records:
2005 Wild Oats, Sydney-Hobart race 1d, 18h, 40m, 10s
2005 Carrera, Ft. Lauderdale to Key West race 10h, 2m, 24s
2005 Titan, Pineapple cup, 2d, 10h, 2m, 24s
2005 Morning Glory,Centennial 6d, 16h, 4m, 11s

2003 Pyewacket Newport - Ensenada Race 10h, 44m, 25s

2002 Pyewacket Chicago - Mackinac Race 23h, 30m, 24s

2000 Zephyrus IV Middle Sea Race 64h, 49m, 57s
2000 Zephyrus IV Cape to Rio Race 12d, 16h, 49m, 16
The Reichel-Pugh design team truly represents a new class in yachting
design standards, consistently achieving excellence and a performance
pedigree of a new category of speed, style, and comfort.
With a 60% ballast ratio, the yacht will surf at speeds in excess of 25
knots. There are no running back stays and no overlapping headsails.
The result is a very powerful, super-fast racing yacht, downwind and upwind -
ideal for both inshore and trans-ocean racing events.
The vessel now boasts an IRC rating of 1.120.
Results: Winner of the South Atlantic Trophy(2006), taking line honors
and 1st place in the IRC ranking.
An amazing achievement beating yachts much bigger in size. The
3.550 kg fixed keel racer with it’s modest 37 feet was practically the
smallest yacht in the fleet!
Building an International race yacht.
We have been building racer/cruiser yachts here in South Africa for the past 15 years and are absolute perfectionists when it come to building a race yacht.
We adhere to a strict policy of following instructions from our resident naval architect and the original designer i.e: Reichel-Pugh.
We constructed our own factory and employ staff that have been working together with us for many years and are professional in every respect regarding the manufacture.
We have studied the design plans and listened to the comments from past crew who have sailed and raced the first boat built, wherein, we noticed that certain aspects of the boat were a problem and could be corrected. This would make the boat even more competitive than it already is, plus, make the boat easier to sail.
We have done various engineering to the moulds to incorporate these modifications i.e:
1) We have extended the ‘cord’ of the fin keel by 50 mm forward and aft. This is because the boat tended to ‘slip’ marginally sideways. This modification has solved this problem.
2) Our boats are built using Vinyl Ester Epoxy. This composite is slightly heavier but still retains the same strength but is a third of the price compared to carbon and a lot easier to work with.
3) We are using a different method to assemble the ‘fin keel’ which has proven far lighter but has the same strength characteristics as the previous type which was hi-tensile molded which was prone to flexing.
4) We have saved weight from the interior and from the keel fin which we have transposed down to the bulb by adding extra lead. This has proven a definite 60 % ballast ratio which has ‘stiffened’ the handling of the boat. As it is apparent that the two previous boats were stated as ‘close to 60% ballast ratio’ This was misleading, as when we compare the weights, this was not possible for to be achieved. We now know we have a 60% ratio.
5) We have also ‘opened’ the cord line of the rudder blade by adding 35 mm to the leading edge as the previous boats tended to be light on the rudder as it had not enough ‘bite’ and tended to cavitate at high speed’s. This has corrected this problem.
6) We have built an inner casing and a fully retractable 15 hp outboard now powers the boat.
7) We are using s/steel rod standing rigging.
8) We have equipped our boats with ‘tiller’ steering and a fixed bow-sprit of 90cm in length.
9) The mast and boom remain aluminum.
10) The inner core is balsa.
11) We have re-positioned the mainsail trimmers behind the helmsman by re-locating the associated deck fittings and winches. This works perfectly.
12) We have added and reversed the anti-slip deck chocks both in the cockpit and on the bow.
13) We have improved the mast jack system.
14) Harken deck fittings throughout.
15) These modifications have improved the IRC handicap drastically.
The best of all:
Included in this price is:
1) The yacht as per the specifications list.
2) A complete suit of Quantum. Pentex race sails.
3) Shipping to the U.S.A.
4) A shipping cradle.
5) Transit insurance cover.
6) 12 month, international guarantee on supplied equipment.
We produce this sport race yacht which allows the customer to simply board, race and enjoy the fine workmanship of our craftsmanship for many years and safe in the knowledge that the yacht will hold its value in a very competitive market.
