Garner State Park -

Hundreds of thousands of visitors flock here each year to enjoy its matchless vacation facilities. They swim in the clear waters of the Frio River, scoot its rapids on inner tubes, rent pedal boats, and hike its fascinating nature trails. On long summer evenings, young folks (and the young at heart) meet at the concession building for jukebox dancing every night during the summer season. Nearby is a miniature golf course, which is lighted for nighttime playing. Meals and snacks are served in the concession building, though many families prefer to take advantage of the many camping sites and do their own cooking. A limited number of cabins are available for rent. The park offers camping, hiking, nature study, picnicking, canoeing, fishing, swimming in the Frio River (unsupervised), seasonal miniature golf, and paddle boat rentals (mid-March through Labor Day weekend), bike riding (surfaced).

Joe Wheeler State Park -

The main facilities are near Rogersville, Alabama include a modern resort lodge containing 75 spacious rooms, a picturesque restaurant and full service convention facilities all directly on the shores of Wheeler Lake, on the beautiful Tennessee River. Modern Marina has 70 covered and 64 open slips. Canoes, fishing and pontoon boat rental available. Purtis Creek State Park -

Activities include camping, picnicking, fishing, boating, and hiking. The park rents paddle boats and canoes. The facilities available are campsites with water and electricity; water only campsites; primitive campsites (minimum 1/2 mile hike); an overflow camping area; a covered group pavilion; lighted fishing piers; fish-cleaning shelters; rearing/trout ponds; boat ramps; courtesy docks; picnic sites; and a playground. The park's unique 355-acre lake was designed specifically for fishing, where largemouth bass are plentiful and can be fished on a "catch and release" basis only. Also, large catfish and crappie are abundant and may be retained.

Tyler State Park -

Activities include picnicking; camping; boating (motors allowed - 5 mph speed limit); boat rentals; fishing; birding; hiking; mountain biking; lake swimming (in unsupervised swimming area); and nature study. A seasonal grocery store that sells souvenirs and fishing supplies and rents canoes, paddle boats, kayaks, and fishing boats; a laundry tub; and a concrete launching ramp with a courtesy dock. Fort Cooper State Park -

The park offers primitive tent camping for groups of up to 30 people. Visitors can play volleyball and horseshoes in the main use area of the park. There is also a playground available. Swimming, sunathing, canoeing, picnicking and fishing are very popular activities at this park. The hardwood hammock is an excellent picnic area complete with grills, tables and pavilions. Pavilions are available to rent as are canoes and paddle boats which can be rented for a day of enjoyment in the lake. Each year in March, the park holds Fort Cooper Days. Volunteers recreate Fort Cooper of 1836. Activities include period and modern arts and crafts.
