iboats.com sets record in February
Internet firm iboats.com had its highest traffic month ever in February, breaking its July record by 19 percent and outperforming February 2001 by 368 percent, the company announced on Friday, 1 March.
There were over 1 million user sessions in February on the iboats network of sites and the average user stayed for 12 minutes and 15 seconds, meaning that visitors to the iboats network of marine sites spent 204,167 hours on the sites throughout the month, stated the company.
The iboats network of boating websites received more consumer traffic during the last six months than the top 100 boat manufacturers' websites combined, according to traffic figures provided by Alexa Internet, an independent website tracking service.
Alexa Internet statistics are based on the number of visits made to a website by its approximately 300,000 daily users over a rolling six month period.
"We remain very encouraged with the continuing rapid growth of our results online," said Bruno Vassel III, iboats.com president and CEO. "By mid-summer, we expect our traffic and sales will again more than double beyond current record levels. Clearly, there is an enormous and rapidly increasing interest by consumers in searching for boats and other water-sports products and services online."
Online demographics changing
One reason for this growth may be that more people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s are becoming comfortable using the Internet, said Vassel.
Another factor is that iboats.com and other companies with websites are becoming better at helping people find their sites online.
In addition, Internet users feel safer online now than a few years ago as they've realize that fraud isn't as widespread as some had feared, he added.
