Have you ever noticed that things just move slower in the winter? A lot of your favorite activities are ushered into the closet, and you are forced to wait for spring to resume play. The same goes for boating, and many people are forced to hoist their floating toys into a cubby at a marina, or beneath the drapery of boat cover when it is cold outside. But just because your boat hibernates in the winter does not mean you should act accordingly with your marine insurance. Most carriers will discount your policy when you follow protocol for “Winterizing” your boat, but do not opt for cancelling your policy instead.

Bayliner 285 Cruiser

This is the first of a three part review of the Bayliner 285 cruiser. The second part will appear next month with the third appearing late February or early March. The third part will cover an on-water test scheduled for early 2011.

It was sunny and a balmy 34 degrees as I pulled in to the freshly fallen snow covered parking lot of Bayliner dealer “Fox Lake Harbor” on Grand Ave. in Fox Lake, IL. this past week. Fox Lake is a very popular boating area northwest of Chicago and just over the WI/IL border.

Red Sky at Night with JB Cornwell | The Worst Boater I Remember

I think it was July 3, 2003. My son, John, and I were at the Angle Outpost Resort on the northwest angle of Lake Of The Woods. The northwest angle is a detached part of Minnesota but only a few miles from Ontario, where we did most of our musky hunting. We have spent a week in late June or early July there for all but a few of the last 15 years.
