Insurance Corner | Crazy Claims Part II from NBOA
Sponsored content by NBOA Marine Insurance
Writing last month’s issue of NBOA’s Insurance Corner was extremely fun, so I can only imagine what you all were thinking as you read our collection of Crazy Claims from over the years. Aside from the accumulated tips and pointers, reading about Insurance doesn’t really seem like much of a party on your browser page. Our real-world examples of claims help to broaden our boaters’ attention to details; they have even helped to prevent such mishaps, and on the occasion make us all laugh.
So, back by popular demand, is the second part of our article, for your viewing pleasure.

Attwood Marine | Take A Seat Please
The seats on your boat have lived long lives and have supported your family through tall waves, impromptu storms, and crowded sunset cruises. They have many stories to tell but just can’t provide the same support any longer. Or your boat could use a facelift and new seats would do the trick quite well. Either way, you know how important it is to choose a seat that will stand the test of time from a quality and looks standpoint.
What makes a seat comfortable? The answer can be complex as boating becomes more specialized and boaters more demanding. Having designed seats for many of the manufacturers that sell you your boats, Attwood Marine stays out front of design trends and is pleased to provide the following information for you to consider when making your selection to insure an excellent seating experience.

Yamaha | Five Key Tips to Wonderful Wiring
Working on a marine electrical system is a near certainty if you’re a hands-on boat owner. It doesn’t matter if your foray into the jungle of your boat’s wiring is voluntary – adding electronics or accessories, or involuntary – troubleshooting and repairing an electrical malfunction, there is a right way to get the job done.
Each of the following five tips outline the proper methods and materials for common boat wiring scenarios. These aren’t simply our own ideas – they’re a compilation of legitimate Federal Regulations for boat builders from the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and best practices established by the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC®).

iboats.com | Dad’s Boats
Most of us got in to boating as a family experience. Our parents owned a boat and we would pester them to go boating as often as we could. Boating delivers great family fun. That’s why we love boating no matter what our age.
Like quite a few of us who are frugal or too sentimental, I still have my dad’s boat. His early wood boats are long gone but his 1970 14’ Alumacraft is still in use today. He started using it with a well-traveled 1939 Evinrude “Mate” 1.5hp outboard he purchased before going in to the Navy for WWII. The little Evinrude was fine for a couple years but eventually we graduated to a 1971 Mercury 9.8 hp outboard that still pushes it around the lake today.

Red Sky at Night with JB Cornwell | Curves
From the time I was quite small I spent from a few weeks to a couple of months each Summer in Montclair, NJ with my Dad and Grandma. One of his favorite things to do with me and my siblings (Bro and Sis) was to visit local parks and sail the boat he had made in Junior High school. He had the boat rigged to steer herself in response to whatever wind there was. She (Victoria) was a sloop about 36” long with a tall mast and long bowsprit that gave her a lot more sail area than most pond sailers her size. He would usually tease some other enthusiast into a race, which Victoria always won.
