I didn't have insurance at the time and just wasn't up for a $1,000 bill at the ER, just to get a hook out. I tried the bit about cutting the hook and pushing it out, rather than pulling it out. It didn't work - between the toughness of the skin on the inside of my thumb, where I hooked myself, and the fact that I had to rotate the hook in an upwards direction as I pushed, it just didn't want to break the surface...

Winterizing Rules for Ethanol

The debate began innocently enough. Pierce Hoover, editor of Motor Boating, asked my opinion on winterizing procedures with ethanol-extended gasoline ó a fuel much more susceptible to deterioration during storage.

Simple, right? Stabilize the fuel, top off the tank, run it through the fuel system, fog the cylinders, change the oil and coolant (on a closed-cooled engine) and cross your fingers until spring.

Red Sky at Night with JB Cornwell | The Fishing Hole at The Hideout

We stocked it with channel cat, bass, bluegills and fathead minnows. I fed them every day for a couple of years. Then I tried the fishing and started catching nice pan sized cats, but no bass, no bluegills. I did catch small green sunfish, but nothing over 5-6Ē.

Then I caught a 6lb channel cat. It turns out that the tank already had some big cats, which explains why none of the fingerling bass or bluegills we stocked survived.
