  In 1957, Maurice built his first boat to fill a personal need. He enjoyed diving, and needed a flat, stable platform to transport the bulky equipment to diving locations. After building and using his first steerable, motorized pontoon platform, he quickly realized that a lot of people would enjoy the stability and room it provided. Seeing that potential, Maurice started Maurell Products. From that day forward, he never looked back. A private individual, his personal satisfaction came from building quality boats while keeping Maurell Products and independently-owned family business. In addition to that, he was a strong supporter of children's charities, and his hobbies included model trains, model sailing vessels and antique automobiles. Even though Mr. Schell was a strong and dynamic leader, he also realized the company he built was more important than any one person, and he made certain it was left in capable hands. Maurell Products remains a family-owned business, and an experienced one, with three of the top managers representing over 100 years experience in the pontoon industry. As a tribute to Maurice Schell's vision and leadership in the design and construction of pontoon boats, we are sharing his legacy through the photos on this web page. The photos progress decade by decade from the 50's thru the 90's, and provide a visual demonstration of his innovative leadership. As the Crest story moves into the next millennium, Maurice Schell's legacy will continue as its guiding force.
