DOCKED IN PORTLAND, OREGON...

Shawnee was built by Hardin International Co. Limited in Kaohsiung Taiwan. She is beautiful, robust, and can be had at a fraction of the cost of a new raised salon yacht, and she is able to deliver this quality with the hand crafted interior and fitments which seem lost in many of today's more sterile yachting choices.

There is so much that goes in to the design of a fine yacht.

She has a HUGE master suite aft, with plenty of light, glass ports in her transom for a view from your berth, an extra single stateroom and 2 heads. She has a wide open two level salon which has a very light and airy feel due to the raised salon glass, port-lights and butterfly hatch above. Her teak soles (floors) are in excellent shape. Her upholstery is recent and very nice.

Her joinery and decorative interior was clearly done by masterful hands. She is capable of providing expansive living comfort on a level with power yachts of the same length. How rare it is to find a yacht with such capability to please everyone on board.

The seats in the cockpit fold up to reveal access to the companionway and stateroom below. There is large teak escape hatch in the Master Stateroom. As a matter of fact, every room on this yacht has its own access on deck.

On Shawnee, you can see all the electrical controls in a well lit work area in the standing position. Her systems are laid out with straight-forward logic. Her batteries are carried in the very center of the boat, accessed through a large hatch in the floor of the main salon.

Her engine is FULLY accessible on BOTH sides. She is fitted with excellent canvas, lines, hardware and equipment. Her tanks are integral fiberglass and she has no issues with them.

This yacht is a cream puff and would surely be the queen of any anchorage or marina you take her to. Shawnee is fully capable of lasting well beyond our lifetimes.

Accommodations:
Keeping the staterooms aft creates an open area from the companionway in to the galley area, all the way forward to the head and chain locker. The impact this has on you when you enter the salon is very dramatic. You are overwhelmed with the space, and also the warmth and detail of the joinery. All three major areas of the yacht are treated with a state of the art sound system. The master suite, main salon and even the cockpit have separate channels on the built in system. From the chain/sail locker in the bow, is a head. Moving aft is the lower salon area with seating, storage, television and pilot berths. Over head is a beautiful leak-free butterfly hatch. Up two steps (with storage in the steps), you find yourself in the raised salon with dining to starboard and galley to port. You can then go up the companionway steps to the cockpit or take the starboard or port route aft. Starboard is a guest suite, then through a teak door to the main head. On through the head through another teak door is the generous master suite. Circling around to port, you can walk forward through the companionway along the engine. In this area, there is a large nav-station, electrical panels, and full engine access. Built in refer/freezer resides under the nav-counter/work bench area.

Galley:
A 3 burner gimbaled range with oven is the centerpiece of the galley area. Since the refrigerator/freezer is in the adjoining nav/work area, there is more than ample storage for utensils and supplies for extended cruising. Every inch is used with well thought out items like a trash "hole" in the food prep counter. A deep double stainless sink is deep enough for chowder and pasta pots. Illumination is provided by the large safety glass windows and fluorescent lights. Brass oil lamps are also fitted. 8500 lbs of ballast and a displacement of 30,000 lbs keeps the galley stable. The galley is also situated on center of the fore-aft/port-starboard axis of the yacht, keeping this area surprisingly stable at see or anchor. With the raised salon, those in the galley are not isolated down in the boat as with many other sailboat designs. This area is kept warm by the Force 10 heater. Hot and cold pressure fresh water is on board. The 8 gallon water heater operates on engine heat, or 110v shore power.

Electronics:
2 interface station plugs are on board. They are in the dining area and the cockpit. Systems include: a new COMNAV 101S Autopilot, Standard Horizon VHF, Furuno radar, Furuno 1600 GPS, radar reflector.

Electrical:
She’s equipped the right way. There is a Trace 2500 Inverter just below the companionway. It works in concert with a new bank of deep cycle batteries and a separate engine starting battery. All electrical is distributed through 2 electrical panels in the nav/work area. All panels are access standing straight up. Another well thought out feature. So many other yachts have the kneel and flashlight panels in odd locations. Electrical outlets are everywhere you need them on board. The battery banks are accessed through a hatch in the center of the salon floor. Anyone who has ever had to service or replace batteries on a boat will appreciate the uncommon simplicity and logic of the battery bank location.

Deck:
2 CQR's, both ready to go on their own rollers. The primary is attached to 330 feet of chain and 550 feet of line and the second is attached to 300 feet of line rode. An additional Danforth is onboard below decks. Her windlass has BOTH up and down power, and is operated by the unit, or from the cockpit. Lines are guided and secured with over sized bronze and stainless cleats and fittings. Double lifelines and rails. Included also are lines, fenders, safety equipment and spares.

Sails/Rigging:
Sails are not new, but well maintained and in fine shape. Her drifter is in the bag and has barely been used. All the green canvas is in good shape. All lines are in good shape. I did not notice any fraying of lines anywhere. Even all her black dock lines are in fine condition. Winches are ample and Cathay 2 speed 28's do most of the heavy lifting. Cleats are where they need to be and the placement of them discourages fouling of lines. Belaying pins keep the decks clutter free. The masts and booms are in perfect shape with System 3 Epoxy as a base and several coats of Imron.
