Main engines have just been installed after the original 12V71’s were removed.
The repower was made with a pair of Detroit Diesel 8V92’s (390 HP each) which were rebuilt in 2005.
These engines have about 1000 hours on them since that time. When the owner had each engine dyno tested and certified.
Marine transmissions are Tonanco TM828 with 2:1 reduction. The gears were removed from the engines and spin tested
Each was certified as being in near perfect condition having performed within the specified tolerances at all rpm’s.
The engine room was stripped of all electrical and hydraulic lines and currently in the process of having new ones installed.
The engines, with the new 10 degree down angle gears, were installed and aligned.
The engine room awaits a new coat of paint before the owner gets on with the hook-up.
The Hull was sandblasted and painted from the water line to the keel. Two coats of epoxy primer and two coats of marine epoxy (Seaguard 6000) were applied. One coat of antifouling (red) has been applied at this time with the second coat of black to be applied after the zincs have been welded on this week.
The propellers were removed and set out to be cleaned and balanced. They are now reinstalled.
The cutlass bearing ere removed and replaced.
Shafts were checked and found to be true and straight.
Stuffing boxes were cleaned of all existing packing and repacked. (Shaft and rudder boxes)
All of the dents and bumps visible on the hulls exterior were cropped and re-plated. Primed and repainted.
The owner has rebuilt about a half a dozen of these in the past ten years and all are still working in different locations around the world.
