The term "Classic" is sometimes used in a very cavalier manner. In the case of this Jefferson, it is well earned. The style and charm of this Marquessa may never be duplicated again without spending well over a million dollars to have one custom made. If you do not want to wait several years to build your own classic, give this extended deckhouse 56 a good hard look. You can realize your dream at a fraction of the cost. At well under 300G, this is a unreal offering. This Marquessa is the perfect yacht for someone looking to tour the islands on an extended cruise. As a liveaboard she will be hard to find a more comfortable, roomy yacht. All of the amenities are here for dockside living, or swinging on the hook in a remote anchorage. From the roomy fly bridge to the enclosed pilothouse, she is an all weather cruiser at home in the tropics or a late season color tour on the Great lakes. Accommodations:
It is hard to know where to begin when describing the key features of this 56 Jefferson. The adjectives include roomy, classy, beautiful, spacious, rich, warm and liveable to name a few. The sheer amount of space afforded by the tri-deck design is hard to match. Jefferson Yachts have a very loyal following due to the quality of construction and the thought put into the design. Cruisers, liveaboards and casual users alike will find that this is truly a yacht for all seasons. She will be every bit as much at home in a quiet tropical anchorage or steaming thru some snotty fall weather on a Great Lakes color tour.
Starting topside, which is reached via an interior staircase, a full enclosure of isinglass with U-shaped zippers, provides protection when needed. The canvas is in very good condition, and only a few years old. With the canvas down you have a huge, open air flybridge. The helm has full engine controls and instrumentation. Thruster control and a full compliment of navigation gear will make this a terrific all weather nav station. Radar, trim tabs, VHF, depth, auto-pilot, compass, stabilizers and more can be controlled from the bridge. Seating for 8 or 10 on two upholstered lounges is serviced by a wet bar with hot and cold water, Corian sink and counter top, which is one of the few things that needs some attention. Numerous stowage compartments are situated around the upper deck. Just aft of the seating and bar is the 12 foot Aquascan RIB tender with 40HP Honda outboard. An electric crane makes for easy deployment and recovery of the tender. The tender has a 20 gallon internal tank for hours of exploring. The RIB also has an anchor, bilge pump and plenty of under seat stowage.
As you go below, you enter the pilothouse that has a center-line helm. All the whistles and flutes are here including full engine instrumentation, a full navigation package including SSB radio, 72 mile radar, desktop with Windows XP and Navigation software. Repeaters for the computer are found on the bridge and in the office below. The teak lends a rich feel to the interior and the parquet floor gives a truly classic touch. An overstuffed raised couch provides seating for 3 mariners with good visibility to navigate. The entertainment center is situated under the raised pilot seating and opens aft to serve the salon. Sliding doors reveals a color television, VCR, sound system and storage. The entertainment equipment includes a Sea Tel stabilized satellite system with 2 DSS receivers, 3 TVs with VCR's, and a JVC RX-903V digital surround sound stereo receiver with CD in salon with a feed to the master stateroom speakers. An etched glass divider is above the entertainment system. The salon is nicely appointed with an L-shaped sleeper sofa, wicker accent chairs and tables and a tropical feel. Large windows provide plenty of light and a great view. The teak paneling and parquet floor give a warm feeling to the room. Teak blinds close when privacy or respite from the sun is warranted. Recessed cove lighting adds a nice touch in the evenings.Double, teak doors lead to the spacious aft deck. Port and starboard upholstered lounges seat 5 and room for several deckchairs makes for great entertainment possibilities. The built in refrigerator, ice maker and wet bar compliment the area. You will also find a trash compactor to make the long cruises a little easier. Hard enclosures port and starboard and canvas aft make this an all weather area. Wing doors port and starboard make acess to the side and fore deck easy. Down a few steps you enter the cockpit with a docking station equipped with engine and thruster controls. Plenty of storage is found here as well as a hot and cold shower and fresh and salt water wash-down connections. Through the transom door is the swim platform with fold away boarding ladder.
Access to the lower level is from the pilothouse. Four steps lead to the galley and dining area. The galley is fully equipped with 4 burner stove, oven, full sized stainless steel refrigerator/freezer, microwave oven, dishwasher, garbage disposal, Corian counters and double sink. The dinette, with teak table, has a floral design and large windows, with teak shades, allow plenty of light. As you continue forward, the guest stateroom sports a queen and single upper and lower berths. A TV with VCR is also here. The en suite head with separate shower and plenty of locker and stowage space make this a step above most bow cabins.
Moving aft from the galley is a mid-ship office with head and shower opposite. Next in line is the dual engine rooms with Nida-Core bulkheads for sound deadening. Easy access to the dependable Detroit's will be appreciated for routine maintenance. Finally, is the spacious master stateroom. Teak cabinetry, large windows and a huge amount of storage surround the center-line queen berth. The parquet floors, cove lighting and rich teak paneling is found throughout the lower level. The colors and fabrics of the entire boat are very tasteful and add color and a touch of class while not being overpowering.
Once you have a stand up engine room, you will never settle for anything less. Port and Starboard engine spaces house a pair of dependable Detroit Diesels. These 550HP. 6V92TA's have always been professionally maintained and burn just over 10 gallons per hour, while moving along at a comfortable 10 knots. The 5 blade props make for an efficient cruise and will top out at 17 knots if you need to get somewhere in a hurry. Your fuel burn tops out at 13 Gallons per hour with both generators on-line. Take a look at the engine room photos and you will be impressed at the size of these Detroit's. In 1993, diesels were built to run slowly, dependably and last a long time.
