Ok i just recently decided to give my 16.5 ft aluminum v-hull a complete rebuild. I guess i didn't look into the flooring enough before i decided to buy 1 in treated plywood, and spend about 7 hours trimming to fit. Is there any kind of paint/sealer or anything that would help if i coated the treated plywood. I don't think i'm going to turn back now. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Re: Treated Plywood???

I would use resin to seal the wood off with glass over the top and bottom personally. I'm just basing that off what I've read and seen pics of here though. Use the search function for the forum and you'll come up with alot of awnsers just gotta keep your reading cap on bro. Good luck hope this helps!

PT wood has 3 chemicals that do not work good with resin.... it will peel crack and even break off.... For any kind of PT wood use Cabot oil stain.... you need to work in the first coat real good.... then the second coat will seal whatever is left and the third will give it good protection, do this to all 6 sides.... where you seam your boards, use Sika 15lm caulking... it will stick and suck into the PT but it will not let go. cure time is about 16 hrs...full cure 1 week and then it will flex a little but never peel off ...... PT wood is a pain people think it's the be all of "protected" wood.... I'm my opinion it's just a green coloured wood now... you better off with regular pine, fir, etc and soaking it in Cabot.... it's the only paint for outdoor wood i put a 10 year guarantee on...

Welcome to iboats.....

Not to mention that the chemicals leach out and EAT AWAY aluminum....... PT plywood has no place in an aluminum boat.:(

Same as above...also you don't need 1" plywood. 5/8" or 3/4" marine or exterior grade will suffice.

Better tell all the boat companies that use PT plywood to build boats about your findings

lol....im toast !

pt wood can be used in any fiberglass boat but not in aluminum...

as bob vt said.....it casuses a galvanic responce that eats aluminum...

standard exterior grade plywood (the glue is water proof) encapsulated with fiberglass will do just fine for many years to come.

News to me as well!! Based on all the research I did a while back this is incorrect. Regardless, like it was said before, I would not use PT wood on a tinny. The PT chemicals and Aluminum don't get along, especially with ACQ.

Have a great day,

Rob.
