I was given a boat and trailer today. I just sold the boat and now have the trailer. It has a LOT of rust, but nowhere is rusted through. my question is the trailer worth having sandblasted and painted or just scrap it and look for a newer one? Thoughts?

Those rollers on there look like alien arms or something! I think shore landrs are a good company- they are still making trailers today. When I saw the trailer that I bought today 3 months ago- I said neat but no way. When I saw it 2 days ago after they had it sand blasted and repainted I ended up buying it. The boat place told me it cost them $150 to have it done but for a regular customer it would have cost $200. I have to get a couple new rollers, put on a new winch, and replaced the two wood pieces but other than that I saved alot of $. I don't have a before pic but here is the after.

I say blast and paint. From the pics it looks like surface rust.

Mick that trailer looks really good!

I am thinking about having that done with this one. But only if it is worth it. I will have to ponder on it for a couple days.

Blast it, paint it, new stickers and you got an awesome trailer there. Then your gonna need new rims and tires cause those just wont match the new paint.
Id lose those old rollers and opt for the clear ones that dont leave marks. Those tend to skid more than roll.

if you have an air compressor, harbor freight has a sand blaster for 60 bucks and you can also get walnut media there

Re: Worth Sandblasting and Painting?

Thanks guys for all the comments. I got the trailer for free. I was hoping it would of worked for my 21ft aluminum, But this morning i took some measurements and it is just to short by about 3 feet. I posted it for sale on Craigslist and 2 hours later it was sold. I am just going to take the money and put it towards a trailer that will work better.
