Thought i would check here for help. I have a four winds 1993 5.0 cobra OMC motor continues to stall. I have drained gas no sediment noted new fuel/separator replaced. I am constantly cleaning the in line carb filter screen, once that is cleaned boat runs fine for a little while. The fuel pump is 10 micron there is no way debris getting from the filter to the in line screen. The debris looks like little black flacks is there a tube or rotor in the fuel pump that could be old and needs changing. Or can the metal fuel lines degrade inside the steel fuel lines. Thanks in advance for your help

Howdy,

Welcome aboard!

Sounds like you have debris in the tank or a flexible fuel line from the tank to the water separator that is disintegrating. I would suggest first cleaning the tank out completely by removing the fuel gage sender. You can then look inside and see if there's water and/or debris. Your tank should also have a fuel screen that would presumably prevent debris from getting into the water separator/filter but it could also be clogged.

Before you remove the gage sender, get a new gasket and screws for when you put it back together. (don't re-use the old gasket)

Since you're trouble shooting the fuel system, you should also probably remove the fuel pickup (with screen) and inspect/replace the anti-siphon check valve.

Your 1993 model year boat is 24 years old. You should probably replace the flexible fuel line from the tank to the fuel filter separator.
Use USCG SAE J1527 TypeA1 Marine Fuel Hose. You can buy it just about anywhere.

If the contamination is not making it through the filter, I would look to replacing the pump.

Cheers,

Rick
