Starts fine (a little cold), idles fine and idles (trolls) in gear fine. When I transition from idle to full throttle, the boat accelerates at WOT for about 10 seconds and then sounds like it starves for fuel, slows then engine dies. If I back off the throttle before the engine dies, I can usually go back to a smooth idle speed in gear. I'm stumped. I have new fuel (pumped out the old and replaced with 87 octane- ethanol free), new fuel filter. The electric fuel pump is putting out plenty of fuel. This condition occurred after driving over a very rough road to a lake. Engine flooded while on lake and I had to pull the fuse to the electric fuel pump because fuel continued to go down the carb (stuck float) after engine died. Prior to this, it ran "fine" +/-. Carb is Holley 2300 2bbl (model 80382-1). I've bought a carb kit (and will replace float when I see which one I need) and will see if there's damage in the carb but wanted to get the expert's thoughts before I do anything else. Thanks for your suggestions.

Howdy,

Welcome aboard!

Your problem really sounds like a carb problem as you mentioned. If an engine stalls on acceleration it's usually the accelerator pump. If it stalls AFTER acceleration it's usually a float problem (the float chamber is empty) so maybe the float level is way LOW.

Either way, do the rebuild.

Post your model number too. (your engine/drive could be a 93 or 92 model) It usually is helpful. Someone out there may have exactly the same model and exactly the same problem!

Cheers,

Rick

Thanks Rick. I'll do the rebuild and hopefully that will take care of the problem.

Why rebuild ? Is checking bowl fuel level by removing the side level plug, check level and then adjust the float level if needed a first step here or is that insufficient ? Anyhow, any results ?
