I have 1988 48 hp. Johnson outboard motor, and it will not stop running when ignition is shut off. I have replaced the power pack the rectifier and the ignition and still having the same problem. I have to pull the fuel line to shut the motor down. If you have any ideas what the problem may be please let me know, it will be greatly appreciated. you can e-mail me at rockin2xs@aol.com
Thank you

Hi fishintime.....When ya' say you replaced the ignition, was that the ignition switch or tiller start switch?

Fishintime.... I assume that you know the kill circuit is between the two "M" terminals on the ignition switch. Switch ON, the "M" terminals ARE NOT connected. Switch OFF, the "M" terminals ARE connected.

The kill circuit is as follows:

Black ground wire to regular "M" terminal of ign switch. Black/Yellow wire from raised "M" terminal of ign switch to powerpack. Black wire from powerpack to ground (block).

Disconnect the Black/Yellow wire from the ign switch and check the continuity with an ohm meter from that wires terminal connector to the other end of it at the powerpack. In all probability, you'll find that there's a break in that wire somewhere.

Another possibility is that the small black ground wire at the block is not connected (it happens).
