1998 Evinrude 90hp 60deg. V4. Tach did not work when I purchased the boat. Traced it back to voltage regulator. Replaced regulator, 15 months later Tach stops working (uh!oh!). Tested regulator. Puting out 1 amp from 1000-3000 rpm. Water pump is maintained & working. Could the stator be killing the regulator? Any thoughts?
Thanks Gents

Got wing nuts on the batters? If so, lose 'em. Some 60 degree blocks were vented but I think it was after 98. It eliminates any air bubble getting trapped at the top of the block which doesnt allow the reg/rec to cool properly.

Make sure the vernatherms (t-stats) are in.

Thanks Hadley
Sounds like this may be a regular occurrence. Do you know of a factory fix? Lost the wingnuts on the batteries a while back.

Its not a regular deal but it does happen. Glad to hear you lost your wings.

Anyway look at the battery cables, connection and connectors. If you have a battery switch make sure you dont switch positions while its running.

I will check all connections. If I find anything I will post up.
Thanks again

If I could only shake the wingnut at home as easy as the battery I would be in good shape!
