How to remove steering wheel

Hey Guys, Need to remove the steering wheel on a Johnson Custom rack &pinion setup. The nut comes off but it looks like the wheel wants to unscrew too? Is that the way it works?? Thanks Dundee

The steering wheel is essecially pressed on. Back the nut off until it's flush with the end of the steering bolt, have someone pull out on the wheel and give the nut a good whack or two with a hammer. Should pop off the wheel. A little lube on the shaft wouldn't hurt, either...

Thanks for the quick answer Rick! Just ran outside, did that proceedure, and the wheel popped right off! Thanks again. We had a fire in the instrument panel on our Sunbird 194 and I'm going to try to restore using wood or plexiglass. Had to get the wheel off to remove old burned plastic.... Dan White (Dundee003)
