I need help locating the correct lower unit to replace or repair bent, twisted prop shaft.
1996 Mercury 25 M, Serial # 0G354154.
If I repair myself, special tools are needed (?).
What all is needed to be replaced, checked if I repair?

This old Buick (OMC) engine was running wonderfully until recently. A mechanic friend believes the timing belt jumped and it's time to rebuild.
Here's what's been done: Replaced condenser, points, plugs. (Wires fairly new and distributer cap looks good.)

So this engine was tuned up last year and this year has started backfiring after WOT for 5 minutes or so. Engine pushes boat at around 33 mph then slows down a few mph then backfires once or twice while at full throttle. I back off the throttle and it continues to backfire...
Are there any options for a higher thrust prop for this motor. I am pushing a 2200lb boat with the 9.5 and burn about 6 gallons of gas in 4.5 hours in 2 foot waves. Sounds like a lot of gas, but we were running the motor at maybe 2/3 throttle.
