Been hearing about this in one of my 2015 - 2020 Mustang 5.0 groups, also I use Mobil 1 full synthetic 5/20 oil as book states, 43K on my 2017 Mustang, some guys use "5w40 or 5w50 but mostly 5w40 rotella t6 and a bottle of ceretec." Thoughts? I'm in central TX, craazy long hot weather with fast cold spikes, car is daily driver, Thx guys

I concur, oil additives are snake oil. It’s marketing that sells them, it isn’t because they do anything for your engine. If you follow the owners manual and change your oil and filter at recommended intervals and use recommended viscosity oils you’ll get long engine life and there will be no failures due to oil failures.
I know of no case where an engine failed due to oil where it was changed per recommended intervals with recommended oil. Probably wont hurt using an oil additive but it’s a waste of $$$.

My 2015 3.5 EB specifies Motorcraft 5w30 synthetic blend (SN Plus) motor oil.

My Mazda 2.5 turbo requires ILSAC GF-6 oil designed specially for Turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injection (TGDI) engines,

My 2012 F150 3.5 TT EB, max tow 4x4 only gets Mobil 1 full synthetic 5/30, 100K on it no issues

The only time I used any additives was as a teen, I added two cans of stp oil additive so the oil pressure was at about 5lbs idling. yes the motor was wore out. It lasted around a month as I was re-building a V-8 to stuff in it.

I had a 68 scout with the 266 V8 in it. I kept a can of STP oil additive in the glove box, if the engine was being stubborn I would take the can out of the glove box and set it on the dash, most times that seemed to change the engines attitude.

Really , if all it took was a wee ( cost effective ) dram of sommat to make oil soooooo much better manufacturers would be already putting it in their oil and shouting about the benefits.
I might put a bit of zinc into my oil but the stuff I buy already has it. I did once use Morleys oil stabiliser in an absolutely knackered engine .....like wait till the oil light comes on and then tip the contents of the crankcase breather catch tank back into the engine type of knackered 😁

GM had an Oil Additive called EOS(Engine Oil Supplement). It was useful as an Assembly Lube and for Camshaft Break In protection. It was not recommended by GM for regular use as Compounds within it were Detrimental to the Cats(that alone would make me want to use it all the Time). In the 70s GM did recommend it for cleaning Sticking Lifters...

Yeah every now and then you hear of something that might actually improve things ( as opposed to just making a difference ). My Dad swears that his car went better after a shot of injector cleaner :LOL: funny as #uck me and my younger bro .....we tipped this snake oil into his engine , and to be fair it wasnt running that good , but we took it for a drive :LOL: we caned the arse off that thing all the way to Glendu bay and back , 1st time it had ever been over 2000rpm in its life , ( yes , it does have a rev limiter ), and the crap that it blew out , anyhow he thinks this injector cleaner is just the ducks nuts 😃

I used Seafoam about 1 tankful a month got 12 % better mileage.
Also tried the Honda way. Run 15 minutes at about 60 mph. Got back the same mileage. I do this way now.
