My guess is timing or carb set slightly lean. The above statements should be checked first.
OEM gaskets should be easy to get, try another pass online or I boats.
I think what Racerone just said is, throw that motor away....and get an electric outboard. It's the future.

This was the beginning of the end for omc....they ended up putting more screws on the cowling, (subbed out to Suzuki) making it ridiculously time consuming to get to anything underneath it.

Pictures from farther back may help. 1st pick I see no black wire, 2nd one I do. I do not really see a missing wire, maybe a missing connector but your pointing to the electrical block located near the rectifier. Might be stealing the hot wire and running it over to the solenoid to crank the...
Might run a hair over... overheat in certain conditions until you take it out make the poppets open but if you have no flow you have no flow.
Could be a bad gasket?
Did you replace the entire pump assembly or just the impeller?
