    Compression too high?

I think it's Wisconsin or something but I've purchased from them and they were always responsive, polite and decently priced. They also answer their phone!

    Compression too high?

Yes I agree, got outboard motor probably left the factory at about 140 tops just kind of leads to the fact that the guy doesn't know what he's talking about or has the bad gauge, either way he doesn't know what he's talking about. The reason why I asked you where you were is because I was going...

By the way, where are you located?

    Compression too high?

Never buy a used outboard from Florida....at least in general. Super salty and ran all year. Best state? Like Michigan, fresh water and boating season is short.

    Older Johnson to new controls?????

Yeah, re-read that. To clarify, did you order the wrong control? Because I thought your existing control had the wrong plugs back by your motor. Please verify.

Lower unit shift rod wont screw back in

And just for everyone out there, Racerone is trying to teach you how to fix motors so he gives you clues on proper procedures. The old saying give a man a fish he eats.....(Get it) So by teaching you how to fish (research, work on, make good choices) you can learn the right way and hopefully a...

    Evinrude 25hp

I don't fully understand this line.... "I swapped my cranking battery for me 1985 25hp evinrude." With that said, to start from scratch, solid load tested battery, super clean and tested wires and connection spots (this one gets me ALL the time) and testing the solenoid like you've done...

    1991 Johnson

Curious, if you don't have a model number how do you know it's a 1991? Trusted the seller possibly?

Johnson 50hp swap to a Johnson 110hp Possible?

Interpretation of direct swap can go many ways....like things that really matter and things that can be modified easily. Certainly "butting in" on another posting doesn't make sense. All of Racers answers here was good solid advice including the garden. Here is mine from last year and it was...

Power Trim goes up but not down on Johnson Outboard Motor MODEL NO J30PL4SD

Did you test the switch or wires or is the polarity correct? Pump runs backwards when switch is deployed so check polarity.

Johnson 50hp swap to a Johnson 110hp Possible?

Above is pretty clear. What I believe he's saying is "it will fit on the transom but if it's a new to you used outboard make sure it's reliable before you waste your time installing it. Did you get something different?

    Prestolite starter assembly

Your post is so long that I had a hard time following it. (Ran out of patience) Hot starter could be under voltage (did you test starter voltage while spinning it?) Gear not engaging is a sign that it's spinning to slow. Had one get hot on me just before it died....all things starters do.

Johnson 50hp swap to a Johnson 110hp Possible?

Bolt holes line up....is the boat rated for something that big?

    Help! Johnson seahorse 70hp 1988

Starter gear staying in-gauged is pretty common and not really a fault. Fast spinning fly makes the gear disengage once started. Not looking for a short but more like a resistance issue. Corrosion, bad ground very common or the solenoid is toast. All very easy to check. Since you have a volt...

Lower unit shift rod wont screw back in

Pictures are horrible. I had that same motor but never pulled the shifter. Pulled it because it was black? It's a two stroke! Racerone is your man and you questioned his integrity? I hate to say it but wrong move. Best of luck to you.
