    Evinrude 40hp Water Temp alarm

82 when running is not accurate. (To cold)

    Surging Johnson 6 hp.

Video is fine....I transfer my videos to YouTube and send the link.. easier for people to see. You have no choke knob....is the choke staying open?

    first bass boat (Evinrude outboard)

Agree with above. Be patient with this motor until you understand how it runs and whether it needs all kinds of services.

    Surging Johnson 6 hp.

Motor could just be wore out. At 90 90 if they run bad I turn them into parts motors or rebuild them. 2 things to note... "Running in a barrel at full throttle" ? (Not advisable) "flow problem " (might still have an issue? IR gun with multiple shots while running on a boat) Spit balling here...

    1982 Evinrude 90 hp

I concur, compression test first. In general outboards will run fine in a barrel but under load will run poorly or die. Many conditions will cause this.

1987 Evinrude 9.9 No Spark On Both Cylinders

To explain more, kill wire can test ok and still malfunction. Best to eliminate the possibility by unhooking it until you diagnose the problem. I'm guessing since it was exposed outside that possibly the kill switch is the culprit but simply unhooking it is the best test.

1987 Evinrude 9.9 No Spark On Both Cylinders

Yes grounds need to be cleaned. 5 dollar tester probably isn't accurate. Unhook the kill wire for now. If everything checks out pp is probably no good, there's more complex tests for the power pack but most people just replace it.

Agreed, sounds like a fuel issue.

    2004 Evinrude 115

The Yamaha's have known corrosion issues. Lots of anodes trying to keep those engines from rotting out. IMHO, aluminum is not as good. I'd still probably take one over a ficht motor though however I do own an e-tec....it's my second one.

    2009 Evinrude 130hp G1 lower unit

Funny, I had a 2009 g1 115 and the 130 is the same gearcase. I didn't have the HO version though. Only thing I saw that was different was more water intake holes. Anyway, they put the v6 gearcases on those motors so they can hold up to that 2 stroke snap. In 11 years I never had any gearcase...

1978 Johnson 85 HP Choke Issues

Interesting, I had a 77 35 HP and it came with a simplex. I didn't know that was the wrong era.

    What year is this motor?

And a very nice motor I might add....treat her well!

Correct. Johnson version was a shipmaster

1978 Johnson 85 HP Choke Issues

Seems to me that motor came with a simplex control box and not the one in the picture. Wire loom (black tape) is not stock. The solenoid is grounded through the frame so only one wire is needed if the motor is properly hooked up to a 12 volt fully charged battery. Is a simple electro magnet...

1978 Johnson 85 HP Choke Issues

The choke mechanism should move up and down with your finger with Little Resistance. It would appear that that ny- tie is holding it open. Can't tell from those picture angles. The motor has been rewired to fit the red plug box but might not be wired correctly for the choke. Apply 12 volts to...

Good catch Fazt....what is that ny-tie doing?

1978 Johnson 85 HP Choke Issues

Just to eliminate any procedural issues, the key has to turn first before pushing it in. Assuming you've done that do as race says or at least test for power at the solenoid while someone pushes in the key. The warm up lever advice above is correct. If it's not moving then it could be a few...

When I zoom in to certain areas it appears to be used. I could be wrong but I would want more pictures to prove it.

2000 Johnson 50 Cylinder Damage. Help!

If you get a chance post both cylinders so others can see the difference. I would have guessed compression ratios would be different.
