1993 20hp Johnson won't hot start... help please.

Yes, choking while hot is a no-no. Hopefully your in the clear. At least take your hand and touch the block near the head on top of the motor (be extremely carefully of moving parts) . It should be very warm but not scorching. Do it carefully. Taking it across the lake at full throttle with no...

    2 hp Johnson: My 2 HP Johnson is a model 2R78R a 1978

Acetone works for you? I use tranny fluid and acetone for rusty bolt penetration but mostly when I clean carbs it's carb cleaner, compressed air and torch tip cleaners. In a worst case scenario, it goes into my ultrasonic cleaner with solvent.

1993 20hp Johnson won't hot start... help please.

If you are having difficulty believing the above, buy a now fairly cheap IR gun and test head temp. Tell tail (pea stream) does not indicate motor is getting cooled. Much to learn.

    2 hp Johnson: My 2 HP Johnson is a model 2R78R a 1978

Just to address the smoke issue....when working on these motors and it's more important on the larger HP, you must take them out on a boat to clear them out. Motors are designed to work under load so without clearing them expect excess smoke.

Strange 1975? Evinrude 9.9 with cdi

Could be that someone put the older clamp assembly on a newer one.... Just never know. If you order parts, you will know if you have the incorrect ones when they come back wrong!😆😆

My flicht ram locks up when i accidentally start the engine with the gear on.

Yes....your description is faulty I believe. If it what I believe it could be, all kinds of things can induce that scenario. Re-think what you've posted and re-explain. Crosby....interesting read. Did you buy one and generally what does it cost? Here is the latest read on my engine. I do not...

1977 55 HP Evinrude we talked about before 2stroke

I believe the two other wires should have a blue and a green stripe, blue (sky) being the top cylinder...green (grass) being the lower cylinder. Those stripes have been known to fade away. If switched the engine will backfire. As for the power pack, pretty sure you can't use just anyone's.

    1997 Johnson 40 no spark

I had purchased my boat with that 2 plus 4 knowing I was going to replace it.....I sold it as a bad engine not knowing that was how it operated. A marine mechanic purchased it from me and explained how it worked....it was then that I purchased my first e-tec 😎 That 2 plus 4 was weird, after you...

    1997 Johnson 40 no spark

I had that Merc.....it's called a 2 plus 4. It kills fuel to two cylinders. Pouring fuel to two cylinders with no spark makes absolutely no sense.

    Checking power trim sender

Just to throw my input in.....and like what was stated, I rarely use my trim gauge. Not very accurate in terms of water conditions, typically not in my field of vision when cruising (should be looking at the water) and I trim my motor by sound and boat attitude. One thing to note and not sure...

Older 6hp Johnson - Oil Leak Between Upper and Lower Unit

Just to confirm, you were looking to buy.....I wouldnt let this issue stop me from buying it. You might want to do a compression test and look for any obvious corrosion.

    8hp powerhead difference to the 6hp (1996, BJ6DREUC)

I've heard porting is different in some models but not the 6/8. I certainly could have received bad info. So then it comes to years. Some say it changed in 92 but I have a 1991 8hp that I brought brand new and it's the newer design....so I think 1991 and a half. Again, I was told intake...

    8hp powerhead difference to the 6hp (1996, BJ6DREUC)

Only difference should be carburetor and intake. By the way, I have your motor as a 1997

Older 6hp Johnson - Oil Leak Between Upper and Lower Unit

Racer has a point but if your not mechanical or knowledgeable in how to take it apart I would just do a pressure/vacuum test and change the gearcase oil. By they way, that's the gearcase to midsection connection and you see all kinds of things dripping out of that area. Tough little motors so...

Older 6hp Johnson - Oil Leak Between Upper and Lower Unit

Anyway we can see the picture? That would help. By the way those 87 are my favorite motors. They come with the manual primer and not a choke. A better way of running in a cold start situation in my humble opinion.

Replacing starter bendix on 1990 evenrude 25 HP

Bracket is not hard. Nut/bolt in front next to the carb. Two more plus upper throttle mount. Starter wire, pull assembly forward. You could try oiling bendix but internal starter issues could be contributing.

Replacing starter bendix on 1990 evenrude 25 HP

Unbolt the bracket....the starter goes with the bracket. You also have to remove the two small screws and small brackets holding the throttle rod assembly. Somewhat obvious as you start the removal process.

    I need a new project

Not sure anyone is going to be able to answer that. Every area has different deals and different models used. Best I can say is pick up whatever makes you happy. Best of luck!
