With an Alpha1 type the lower seal keeps water out, the upper seal keeps the oil in. You must disassemble the upper, remove the vert gear and shaft ,then drive it out from the bottom up.New seal is driven in from the top down with the lip facing up
grease should never be used on rubber, dishwashing soap or K-Y
that shaft is connected to your engine, tap the key to move the shaft. but it not really necessary. with lube you can rotate the impeller to where you need it
leave the existing alone and simply add a battery switch, isolator or blue sea system for the house
Hacking up a system thats working is never a great isea
You attach the gimbal side first with the FWD" facing up.
adjust the forward clamp somewhat loose on the bellow
apply adhesive and push bellow onto transom side until it seats in the groove, tighten clamp
that sound is a blown bendix drive in the starter ,mostlikely caused by water in a cylinder or two,Usually happens when a motor coughs and spins backwards. It sucks water up into the engine causing a hydrolock
The problem is that it is knocking and losing power when hot.
This DOES NOT sound like an ignition problem. But if you want to replace the coil use an "Accell "brand v coil
