    Need help!

Gee, smell the oil. 2 cycle oil smells like oil or more likely like gasoline. Gear oil smells like rotten eggs. If 2 cycle oil, go boating. If gear oil, you need to find and repair the leak. My 35 year old Merc gearcase leaked twice at the shift rod, in the last 15 years. Easy fix. My 25...

    Yamaha 2022 outboard rigging guide

A lot of service manuals include the rigging guide. My factory Johnny manual has rigging info on page 1-45.

    SPARK PLUG CROSS THREAD

A heli-coil is one option. There are solid threaded inserts as well. Both require the spark plug hole be drilled oversize and threaded for either the heli-coil or the solid insert. Hopefully you have a newer Merc, where the head comes off.

    Camper enclosure

Marine stores like Overton's have replacement OEM covers for popular boats like SeaRays and other brands. I do not think yours's is popular enough for them to carry it, but it is likely worth a try.

Mercury XR2 150 stuggling to get on plane.

Did you ever check the fuel pump diagram for leaks? If it leaks, it can load up a cylinder or two at idle. They often clear up, after you struggle to get on plane.

Mercury outboard no power to engine/ tilt

Did you check the neutral safety switch? Power needs to go thru that on its way from the ign key to the starter solenoid primary winding. If the switch is open (like the motor is in gear), no power reaches the starter solenoid primary winding, and the starter doesn't operate. If that 12.9VDC...

Didn't MerCruiser change to a exhaust tube, versus a bellows?

    1984 75hp L4 with unique problem? I'm baffled!

Do any of the spark plugs look real clean? If so, you could have water in the cylinders.

Mercury XR2 150 stuggling to get on plane.

I doubt your charging system is an issue. However, disconnect and insulate the yellow stator wires from the rectifier or voltage regulator.

Mercury XR2 150 stuggling to get on plane.

Gee, you get 4500 RPM. Anything above 2200 means the high speed stator is working. Did you check the fuel pump diaghram? If it leaks it floods some cylinders causing you to start accelerating on 5 or 4 cylinders. If this is happening, does it sound like it might struggle to accelerate? Motor...

Interchangeable lower unit for 2004 Mercury optimax 135 with 25 inch shaft and 2:1 gear ratio

What does SEI say? They should list compatible gearcases across models.

Mercury XR2 150 stuggling to get on plane.

Check the fuel pump diaghram. If it leaks, it can load up a cylinder or two at idle. It takes a bit of revving to clear the fouling. I bad high speed stator winding means no RPM faster than about 2200RPM.

    1984 75hp L4 with unique problem? I'm baffled!

That prop is likely too much pitch for that 'toon. However, you first need to get it to idle when in the water. Your timing light says all are firing? Not sure what else to suggest.

    1984 75hp L4 with unique problem? I'm baffled!

Outboards of that era do not have much in their exhaust passages. They are mostly wide open. If you drop the gearcase, you can shine a flashlight up the exhaust passage and see most of what there is to see. Did you say what your spark plugs look like?

    I"m back with more problems

Gee, fuel pump kits are usually pretty available. Have you tried ebasicpower marineengine or other web sites that carry Sierra and GLM products? An electric fuel pump can work, but they are usually set up using a relay from the charging system, so if the engine stalls, the fuel pump stops...

    Merc 1150 bad cyl?

If the cylinders that have water in them are #5 and #6, the lower crankshaft seals are likely bad. That is an easier repair. Simply loosen the crankcase bolts on the very bottom, and remove the end cap bolts and endcap. Replace the seals (3 is better than 2), and inspect the bearing for wear.

    1984 75hp L4 with unique problem? I'm baffled!

I doubt it is a plugged exhaust. What do the spark plugs look like? Any of them real clean? If so, you could have water intrusion, which puts out the fire in a cylinder or two. Running on muffs means nothing. She will rev up on the flusher and sound real good. What kind of boat and prop...

    Shifting problems

Motor idling too fast makes shifting difficult. I would expect idle speed in neutral to be 900RPM or less.

    1984 75hp L4 with unique problem? I'm baffled!

It sounds like your idle jets are set too lean. Set 'em to 1-1/2 turns open and she should idle in the water. Now on the water in gear, motor warm, adjust the idle mixture screws such that the motor will rev up. If she bogs, open the idle mixture screws one at a time, 1/8 turn and try again...

    Merc 1150 bad cyl?

I just disassemble the carb and blow out the carbs with some spray carb cleaner. Make sure to get the small holes just inside the throttle plate in the carb throat. Those are the idle circuit. I would not expect any significant loss of performance. 90 PSI is pretty good. On your '77 1150...
